Some visitors to Oludeniz might argue that once you’ve arrived in this beautiful place you won’t want to leave! You could simply spend your days on holiday in Oludeniz on the beaches, lazing in the shallow and pristine waters of the Blue Lagoon, and taking in the sights of the pine clad mountains all around you, but if those mountains do beckon you to explore you’ll find there are plenty of places worth visiting in the Oludeniz region.
Boat Trips from Oludeniz
The Blue Lagoon is one of the most famous coastal features in this part of Southern Turkey, but the Aegean and Turquoise Coasts have many other beautiful destinations too. The best way to get to see the coast is from a boat, and you’ll find there are many boat tour companies happy to take you under their wing and provide a day of unforgettable enjoyment.
You could opt for a trip to a secluded cove where you can dive off the boat, enjoy the warm waters and swim to shore. Many companies offer barbecues or lunch of some kind in with the price of your Oludeniz boat trip, so shop around and find the one that suits you best.
A boat trip to nearby Butterfly Valley is very popular. So named because of the large numbers of butterflies usually seen here, and this is a picturesque place to visit, or if you want to take in some history you could take a boat trip to Gemile Adasi. This is an island that features ruins of a Byzantine monastery, and some rock tombs, plus the ruins of a hamlet dating from the 19th century.
Oludeniz Paragliding
It seems unlikely that a village on the Southern Turkish coast would become one of the world’s most revered paragliding locations, but it has! Towering over Oludeniz is Babadag (meaning Father Mountain), a mountain that stands 1,969 metres (6,460 ft) high and makes the ideal height from which to paraglide. To experience the sensation of paragliding is magical in itself, but when you add in the spectacular views of this stunning coastline you can soon see why paragliding in Oludeniz is so popular!
You don’t have to be experienced to try paragliding as there are companies who can train you, or you could opt for a tandem flight in which you let someone else take control. The journey up the mountain (about an hour’s drive from Oludeniz) is also spectacular and of course you’ll get great views from up here whether you’re brave enough for paragliding or not!
