Like many of the popular resorts on Turkey’s Aegean Coast it wasn’t long ago that Gumbet was just a sleepy little fishing village. Though plenty of the little village charm still remains, Gumbet is now one of Southern Turkey’s top tourism destinations and it has the hotels and apartments to cater for the high demand.

 

Holidays in Gumbet have become very popular over the last decade or so, bringing this coastal village resort in line with Bodrum when it comes to popularity. Gumbet is the closest real resort area to Bodrum and it’s developed more specifically for the visiting tourists, providing a typical holiday atmosphere that’s a little different to staying in the larger neighbouring town.

 

Gumbet’s attractive and long beach is the focus for many holidaymakers coming here, as well as its vibrant nightlife! The village rises up from the picturesque bay allowing only a select few of Gumbet’s hotels to line the coast; most others have been built into the hillside allowing for some wonderful coastal views. A word of advice for holidaymakers who have limited mobility – make sure you check carefully on the location and accessibility of your particular Gumbet hotel as getting to it from the beach and main village streets may mean a climb up many stairs, or walks uphill.

 

As the popularity of Gumbet has grown so too has the choice of accommodation in this Turkish village. There are now over 100 choices of hotels, pensions and apartments in Gumbet, so definitely something here to suit all tastes and budgets.

 

The hotels closest to the beach are usually most popular with families with children as you can enjoy the beach as well as hotel swimming pools; making sure you keep the little ones entertained with something different is a big bonus! There’s a good choice of larger, 4 star hotels that include many different amenities and facilities, and usually some kind of kid’s club, or for the height of luxury there’s also a 5 star hotel in Gumbet!

 

At the other end of the scale you can find some lovely smaller hotels and pensions lining the streets around the village. If you don’t want to be right in the middle of the nightlife, choose a hotel that’s a little farther out, but if right in the heart of it is where you want to be there are numerous lively hotels to choose from too.

 

Gumbet has apartments too, ranging from functional yet basic, to the more luxurious end. The Orange Apartments, for example, are one of the top rated accommodations in Gumbet. There are only 12 apartments here so it’s a small and friendly atmosphere, and just 10 minutes walk to ‘Bar Street’.
