It’s hard to believe that only a few decades ago Bodrum was a small village that relied on fishing, however despite the fast growth into a sizeable town, Bodrum still retains a Turkish charm. This isn’t Marmaris, but there are plenty of places for the tourists to stay while on holiday in Bodrum!

 

When you enjoy a holiday in Bodrum there are several different parts of the town you can stay in, depending on what you’re looking for on your holiday. A little way outside the town the hotels are usually larger and resort-like, perfect for those who want to enjoy a relaxing holiday with no need to venture out far from your hotel. Several of these resorts are 5 star and come with many luxuries including multiple pools and restaurants, a private beach, and many other facilities. You can usually enjoy entertainment at these places too, so again you may find there’s no need to go into Bodrum itself for bars and nightlife.

 

Within the town, usually the closer you are to the waterfront the more vibrant the atmosphere. This could mean sleepless nights, unless you’re planning to join the merrymakers yourself! As you travel up hill from the waterfront the streets become quieter, yet there’s still a very good selection of bars and restaurants, and of course hotels and apartments, to choose from. Another benefit of staying up hill is that you are often rewarded with some wonderful views over the town, the castle, and the bays. The disadvantage is that if you’re not very mobile you could struggle to make your way up the hill if you’ve been visiting attractions in the town centre, so bear this in mind when booking your holiday in Bodrum.

 

One thing that many visitors to Bodrum find positive is the lack of ugly, high-rise, concrete hotels that are so often found in other coastal towns in Europe. The hotels and apartments in Bodrum are mainly low-rise, and are usually white-washed so that they all keep that traditional look and feel.

 

Hotels come in all sizes and star ratings in Bodrum. The luxurious 5 star resort hotels tend to be outside of the town centre. 2 and 3 star hotels and apartments are also available in Bodrum, or if you’re looking for a small, friendly place to stay with a limited number of facilities (and therefore an affordable price tag) there are many lovely little pensions to choose from too.
