If you dont have the money you have two choices, take stuff out and leave it at the airport or dont get on the flight. They will ask if you have credit card / debit card. Its a trick most people try to use but it just doesn't work.

They are really strict and I have seen it before when working at Dalaman that people have missed flights as they didnt pay and also people having to put clothes in the bin in order to be allowed on the flight!!

They are really really strict!

I can not believe how lucky I have been.
June I came back to Bodrum and I was 17kg's over weight,,, yes 17,, NO CHARGE,, I was with my daughter and small grandaughter and we flew with T.C. Then in July when I came back to Bodrum with Aegean I was 11k's over again I was not charged a penny. I think I have moved all I need over here now. Initailly when I was moving here I was sending things and booking extra luggage weight and paying a bomb. So I think this has balanced it out nicely.

When we went back to a diff check in desk we only weighed 34kg!!! We were so miffed as it was obvious that the original scales were wrong but when we pointed it out they got so angry and said if we didnt check in quietly we wouldn't be allowed on the flight!! As a former rep I know shouting doesn't get you anywhere so although we were making our point we weren't being noisy or aggressive or anything just think we touched a sore point! We did put a complaint in to the customr services desk but not heard anything since! I think its all a bit dodgy and just a way for ATM (the airport owners) and the airlines to make a quick buck!

my sentiments exactly pmpmpm
i have my suspiscions about their scales weighing heavy, but what can you do

Last year we were overweight coming home and were charged for it. This year we paid £7.00 when we booked the flights to increase our luggage allowance to 20kgs each.
We were not overweight on the return flight, but the people we were chatting to were, and they were not charged. I think it depends on the mood of the desk clerk!!
When we were charged last year, they sent us over to a special little desk purely there to take money!! We didn't have all the cash on us and I wasn't prepared to get money out of the cashpoint so told them I didn't have my debit card with me. They let us pay whatever we had in cash, so they clearly don't have set rules, they just take whatever they can get!!!

We were very lucky this year. We were 3kg over each going out and the woman on check in didn't even raise an eyebrow over it and just put them through, suprised because she had a sour face on her, we were trying to avoid going to her, but she turned out OK.

Comeing home the scales were broken and the guy was just putting them through as he had no way of knowing the weights.

we just got back and flew with t''''' c'''. Our baggage was weighed and we were told we were over by 11kg with a cost of £88. The cases were gone before we knew it so we couldnt argue the fact.

It's so annoying. £88 is almost the cost of the flight sometimes if you get the right deal.

I watched a program and it said the majority of airport scales have not been callobrated for ages and they found a vast majority of them to be wrong when they did an independant check.

what sort of redress is there though? i suppose it could be trading standards over here but is there anything similar in Turkey?

Not sure, I was only half watching the program I was doing something else while watching it. Probably looking for holidays

It's shocking they can get away with it though. On the program they were at Gatwick, but I reckon it's the same where every your flying from.

We always take too much stuff over so this time we were more careful and our cases weighed 17kg each at Manchester. Coming home yesterday our cases were 17kg but we had left stuff there so we had room for the new things we bought in Icmeler, I was so worried about getting charged extra and not having enough money on me to pay for it. Lots of people had overweight cases, some in front of us in the queue were up to 20kg over and no-one got charged. Maybe the staff were in a good mood yesterday!

When we went to Icmeler in May I was 5 kilos over on the way out, but was not charged anything by the company however departing from Dalaman, I was told i was 9k over and that my mum and aunt were both a couple over aswell. This seemed a bit suspect as we hadn't bought anything whilst in Turkey.

The lady charged us £90!!!! When we asked to pay on our card we were told the card machine didn't work and that we would have to pay cash. We didn't have any cash on us so we told to go and get some out the cash machine. After making a bit of fuss we did this & then she gave us twenty lira back as a holiday GIFT!!! We were also told that we could not have a reciept! Obviously this was going straight in her pocket's.

After such a wonderful holiday in Icmeler, this put a bit of damper on it but we didn't have much choice .....we either had to pay or not get on the flight! Also the lady had a huge smirk of her face the whole time serving us and was actually laughing about the situation with her collegues!

ive never had to pay at dalaman but think thats because we've always had the 4 bags combined and there was always a really light one. Hope my luggage isnt over weight. Flew abroad in July with charter airline and had to pay £96 extra baggage to get my things there and 45 euros to get it back... was gutted but wasnt about to throw any of my things away!!
