Didim and Altinkum Popular Excursions

A holiday in Didim or neighbouring Altinkum puts you right in the heart of Turkey’s beautiful Aegean Coast. Famous for its wonderful beaches and spectacular coastal scenery, this part of Turkey offers an amazing holiday experience whatever your age or tastes as there’s always something new to see or do. Whether you want to stay within the confines of these two small towns, or venture further afield you’ll never be short of things to do on holiday in Altinkum and Didim.

Altinkum’s Beaches and Water Parks
If it’s a holiday of little activity and plenty of relaxation that you’re after the beaches of Altinkum should suit you down to the ground. Altinkum after all means ‘golden sand’ and you’ll find plenty of golden sand on the town’s three beaches. If these busy beaches don’t appeal to you though, hire a car or go on a boat trip, exploring some of the many coves where you can swim in warm turquoise waters and enjoy isolated beaches.

Over on Didim’s side of the coast there are beaches too, and you’ll also find the popular water park which makes for a great excursion from Altinkum’s beaches and a change of scenery that’s particularly popular with the kids.

Boat Trips from Altinkum
During the popular summer season there are always boat trips available from the harbour in Altinkum. As mentioned above these are a great way of exploring the Aegean Coast and at least one boat trip while you’re on holiday in Altinkum or Didim is highly recommended.

You can also take a boat trip to the small resort village of Torba, situated on the northern coast of the Bodrum Peninsula. From here it’s a short dolmus ride into the centre of Bodrum.

Visiting Bodrum
Whether you arrive in Bodrum via boat and dolmus, or by car, this larger town has plenty to offer holidaymakers for a day trip from Altinkum and Didim. There are historical attractions including the famous castle, amphitheatre, and mausoleum of Mausolus, plus countless shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy too.

Historical Excursions
While Didyma is easily accessible for anyone on holiday in Didim or Altinkum, there are also several other ancient sites within easy reach too. Miletus is just a short drive north of these two towns, and Priene is just a little further. Further still, but still easy to get to for a day trip is the mighty city of Ephesus with its awe inspiring ruins. Miletus is only 15 miles from the beaches at Altinkum, and Priene an additional 12 miles. Ephesus is only 40 miles distant so you can get there easily by hire car or join one of the many organised tours that leave for the city every day.
