Hi All
Only 1-day 10hrs before were at the airport, can't wait, first time to Icmeler.

Normally go to Puerto Rico, 7 times in a row now but fancied a change.
Have been looking at all the photos in the forum, there great!!!! Noticed some restaurants advertise price in £ and euros;, which currency do they prefer?

We are travelling from Bodrum airport, is it about 2 hrs drive and can you buy drinks on the coach?

Not noticed any supermarkets, where are the best ones?

Someone told me that you're not allowed to bring foodstuffs into the country is this true?

Thanks to everyone in advance for their replies, if any members ever go to Gran Canaria especially Puerto Rico area, let me know and I can give them a lot of info.

Pity there is only one webcam in Icmeler, saying that it's in a good position, what's the restaurant on the right hand side?

If you want to see a great webcam go to http://grancanariaonline.com/webcam/wea ... p?lang=deu
Click on the Playa Amadores- Puerto Rico webcam, press ok when asked for username and password and then the play button.
Then by press the camera with the 4 arrows you can control the camera thru 360 degrees, up & down and zoom etc.
Its worth a look at.

Happy Hoildays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)

Hi Dave

Welcome to the Forum!

I can maybe answer a few of your questions.. about the currency. You will find that nearly everything is priced in Lira, Euro and GBP. You can use any of these currencies and you will find at the market etc everything is priced on 5 t-shirts for £10 etc. They will snap your hands off for tenners to I would advise take a bit of everything!
The best supermarket to go to is Tansas. There are mini supermarkets all over but this one is bigger and tends to be slightly cheaper than the mini supermarkets.
The web cam is really good and is right above the ICR Office. The restaurant you can see is Chill restaurant and Harrys Steak House is just across the road from there. There are more web cams but not on this site. I was given a web site address to check out some more off Gene, he might send you it as well if you ask nicely! :D

I hope this has helped a bit and for the stuff I have missed out I am sure someone else will fill in.

Hi Dave,
You'll find Marmaris more like Puerto Rico than Icmeler - but the best of both worlds within reach. Icmeler is quieter and smaller but you'll have noticed from the forum, very friendly and lots of fun.

Currency - Turkish lire, Sterling, euros are all taken. I usually have Turkish for bars and sterling for shopping. Check the exchange rate before you go as it's changing daily. Cashpoints in the resort too. If you take travellers cheques you can change them for Turkish lire or sterling - even more reason to keep your eye on exchange rates.
Drinks on the coach - I think this depends no the tour operator - some sell water and much cheaper than the stop-off. Most transfers have a stop-off but prices are very high as they are at the airport. I usually get a few bottles in UK airport to keep me going.
Supermarkets - there's a good few small shops selling basics and a TANSAS on the main road. There's also a 24hour market off the crossroads as you're walking up towards old village.
Taking food into the country - don't really know but ther'es several posts on the forum about people packing bacon and sausage - have a look at posts from around May as that's where I've seen them.

Where are you staying - have a look at the guestbook link too - you'll get a sense of the place and the range of bars/restaurants.

Hi Dave
As I know you may have not much time to read all the reviews thought Id do you a quick run down of my fave places to eat.
Waterfall (a must)
Champagne
Dream 3 Bells
Dreamboys
Kingsland Chinese

My fave places to drink are
Champagne
Wonderboys
Dream 3 Bells
Dreamboys
Pop Inn
Oscars (attached to Waterfall)

I'm sure there are a lot more places like Venice and Majestic that you should visit. I haven't been to either of these but they get fab reviews.
Hope this helps xx
