Hi All,
Just had a week in sunny Icemeler, returned on Monday, Typical prices 4/5 Lira for a large bottle of Efes, cigs 200 Superkings £25 in the supermarket, fillet steak 28 lira with all the trimmings, import drinks about £4/£5 with a mixer. Other than the fags, the prices are very similar to last year. However, all the bar owners, waiters etc., think that they are going to have a fantasic season so I wouldn't be surprised if things do increase a little as the season goes on!

This is what I think, if I have to take more spending money than I paid for the holiday then I'm not getting value for money, if I take the same amount of spending money has I paid for the holiday then I'm happy, if I take less spending money than I paid for the holiday then I'm over the moon. I paid just over 2 grand for 2 weeks me the missus and 2 daughters this year in August, I'll be taking 2 grand spends. Just my opinion. AND FOR GOD SAKE STOP RIPPING US OFF WITH SOFT DRINKS HERE THERE AND EVERYWHERE.

Thanks for the update, the steak may come down in price as John did say the other day the meat prices have dropped.

Hope you had a great time.

Words fom my own heart adewolves. We paid £1500 for 3 weeks last year( mum, dad + 3 kids )and spent nearly £2000.
This year cost us £2500 for 3 weeks and we hope to have??????? spending money.
We paid 8 lira a few times for a glass of juice :x thats double the price for a efes

This year we have chosen to stay at a place that has no bar :( lol That way we dont spend silly money at the bar when we are by the pool.... Temptation!!!!! for a quick drink at the bar adds the the cost when you have 3 kids.

The price of soft drinks is one of our reasons for choosing a place to eat or drink.

To be honest spain+greece are the same.

It seems to be the same everywhere at home and also abroad - fair winds me up I have to say especially as the aparts where we usually stay have smaller and smaller glasses each year AND put the ice in first
We worked out that they were getting 3 x drinks [sales] from one small bottle of coke/fanta etc
Needless to say, my kids always ask for NO ice now

Well said adewolves, the price of soft drinks is outrageous, but it,s just the same here I was charged around £2.80 for a pint of coke,is there something special about soft drinks that I don't know? it comes to something when it's cheaper to drink alcohol than pop!.

We were in Salou 2 weeks ago, and we were charged €8.30 for 2 pints of lager, its nearly £ for £ so you are talking about £4 for a pint, needless to say we went onto a bottle of wine after that which was €11.

Lets hope Turkey never goes into the Euro Zone.

i always ask for no ice
because when they put the ice cubes in they use the tap water
and tap water in turkey isnt supposed to be used as drinking water
so would prefer not to have that in my drink
you do get a lot more juice if you ask for no ice as well
lets face it the ice just melts so quickly in icmeler because its so hot and waters down the juice

I don't know where you heard about the ice cubes coming out of the tap, we always get ice and never had a problem with any illness Turkish people are very clean, why would they want you to leave their premises feeling ill how is that going to help their business? also you don't have to have the ice cubes in the same glass as your drink just ask for them in a seperate glass we always do :)

We ended up doing that last time having seperate ice. I just can't understand how they can justify the price of soft drinks though it bugged me for years, no matter where you go its the same, in this country as bad as anywhere if not worse. It doesn't help to stop drink driving either. Drink driving is wrong I can't stand people who do it, but for god sake giove some sort of incentive to crack down more on it. As was said earlier its cheaper to buy a pint of beer than it is to buy a pint of coke. To me its just a case of lets kick the familys in the nuts, the kids want it they'll have to pay for it. Pubs over here moan they can't get familys back into pubs and they're losing trade..I wonder why. You can buy a kids meal in this country now cheaper than you would pay for 2 cans of coke in some pubs, wheres the logic in that. It's more understanable when you're abroad (still a rip off though) as if its going to be hot they know kids will need watering so whack the price up, but why so much over here when it mainly hammers down of rain. Tax on alcahol is a big price raiser like evrything else here, but I'm sure there aint no tax on coke..unless we're importing a shed load at a time from NYC.

Its the families with children that I feel for, soft drinks are a terrible price, you can see why some people go for A/I

Due the prices of canned soft drinks we keep plenty in the apartment fridge, during the day for the majority of the time if the kids want a drink they nip into the apartment.

Obviously in the evenings they can't do that, luckly though the youngest likes water with her meal and only goes for the pop afterwards, the eldest is now starting on the alchohol (17) but in moderation which is cheaper for me.

Had an email lastnight from our apartments and they have held the prices at the bar at 2009 levels.

Great news on the bar keeping the prices the same as 2009.

Our Grandson is joining us for our second week, so I will need to get to tansas and keep a supply of soft drinks in our fridge for him :D

yeah think im going to do that in our apartment too
some cheap drinks from tansas is a good idea
cause the soft drinks do see mto be expensive especially with ice in them as there turns out to be very little juice
on the plus side though not many places in icmeler use a pump so the juice we are getting is the real stuff and not just syrup like is used in most places now in the UK

Warning to Sprite drinkers, many places substitute a cheaper bubble gum tasting fizzy drink for Sprite but charge Sprite prices, the supermarket opposite Diva was charging 3.5 Lira for 2.5 litres of this drink and the Masala was charging 7 lira for a large glass of this, taken that each bottle gives around 6 glasses at 7 lira a pop thats a whopping 38.5 lira profit per bottle!!!

Everything has gone up, even the old lady who sells the corn on the cobs on the beach has doubled her prices in the last 3 years!
