With only 23 days to go and my 5yo son has fractured his arm in 2 places!

He's in a plaster cast and looks like he will be for holiday too!


It's not going to be easy!

Do I need to tell my insurance company & the airline?

Oh no I am soo sorry to hear this, not sure what you should do, some one on here will advise though.

Airline might want a letter from you Dr saying its okay for him to fly I would just check with them to make sure you dont want to arrive at check in and be turned away.

You will have to let your insurance company know to be on the safe side.

That is an absolute bummer. So typical.

If its in plaster you will deffo have to contact your tour operator/airline and see what they say about flying because I know you have to be so careful when things are in plaster for the air pressure etc. I assume he will still be in plaster when you go or will they have changed it to a bandage by then? Its always better to give them a quick call and let them know to be on the safe side as Lynn said it would be horrible to be turned away... Also you will need to let your insurance company know about this-if you have booked insurance with your tour operator then they should be able to advise when you ring them or at least give you a different telephone number for their insurance department.

my son broke his arm last sunday , also in two places , we go next friday , as long as you have a letter from a doctor saying he is fit to fly it should be ok , thats what our airline told us . my son also has a waterproof cast on , so he can still swim , hope this is useful to you.

Contact the people you booked your flights or holiday with and they will do it for you.

If you booked the flights direct then call the original number

I work for a travel company.. You need to contact both the airline and the insurance company to advise that this has happened. You will need to get a fit to fly certificate from your doctor, and you need to ensure that the you are able to slide a ruler up the cast. sounds strange I know, but this is to ensure that if the arm swells while in the air, there is room.

Cant see it being a problem at all when you are out in resort, just make sure you take lots of plastic bags with you, to cover the plaster up while in the water..

CJHarris: Do you mean that the cast is actually waterproof or is it a cover that you have got to go over the top.

Have looked at some waterproof covers but not sure how good they actually are?

I have also been told that the cast needs to be cut to allow for the air pressure in the plane, how would that work if it is a waterproof cast?

yes its waterproof , no bags needed or being cut , the hospital put it on when we explained our situation about holiday , they dont put them on very often , we consider our selves very grateful.
