21.05.2010 - 28.05.2010 Walk To The Flag

Postby Zeynep1985 » 05 May 2010 12:31

Could EVERYONE that is going to walk up to the flag on the day please visit our office and we will give each of you a free t shirt to wear on the day.Our ICR dog Pancho will of course be there with his own shirt to cheer you all on, sitting right next to me at Tommys bar to record it all

Good afternoon all you Icmeler fans,

Myself and Mum, Kelebeck1966, will be in Icmeler between the above dates, we arrive the early hours of Saturday 22.05.2010 (ash cloud permitting). Over the last few weeks we have been quite active while at home and have been thinking about what we can do in Icmeler to continue our active lifestyle. We are planning on hiring bikes for the week, going horse riding, walking or riding to Marmaris on more than one occasion etc, etc.

As part of these discussions/planning we have been thinking about having an attempt at getting up to the flag. We've seen some of the pictures posted on here and would quite like to make it up there ourselves to take in the wonderful view with our own eyes. Plus a few years ago my ex-boyfriend wanted to know if it could be done and I'd quite like the satisfaction of teling him that not only can it be done, but I've done it too.

Having looked at the long list of people that will also be in Icmeler that week, we were wondering if any one else fancied joining us that week for a trip up there. We would also be grateful if someone could refresh our memories on how to get up there etc. We thought we'd post this a couple of weeks early so that any one who does fancy coming up with us could remember to pack the relevant footwear etc as I remember reading that sensible sturdy footwear is necessary. Post a comment below if you fancy this and we can arrange a day to go up.

Look forward to hearing from people soon.

Get your names up and I will be at the bottom at Tommys bar taking the photos.

Do the walk up the front the same as the ICR team did

Can a member of the ICR Team that went up the flag please let me know how to access the front of the flag. Maybe I am being dumb but some directions would be great.

Thanks for offering to sit at the bottom and support us John. I am not a beer drinker but after that climb I could well be.

I,d love to do this , but looking at past piccies i think that at 62, and with a dodgy back and knees it might just be a step too far, but best wishes to all those that try it,Rog.

We're not out there until 29th May, so if anyone fancies a stroll ( :D ) up to the flag the week after then I'm definitely up for it, esp. as I didn't get around to it last year.

That's excellent news, Gene!

Tommy's Bar seems to be the meeting place of choice, but any preference for a day/time? I was thinking that Wednesday (2nd June) would give you a bit of a chance to settle in, but still give me chance to recover before the flight back :D

Let me know what you think...

2nd June sounds Good.
I dont know how long it takes to get up there but a 10am start is ok with me,leaving time then for my lunch time tipple.
Open to suggestions on this one.

ps
I have been reading some older posts and people say it takes between 45 mins to an hour to get up there.
A lot of people have climbed it early morning when its cool but Hey Paul we want a proper challenge I will also be doing it barefoot.
