God forbid, but imagine what could happen if you have a twelve hour flight delay!! The short and curlies will be well and truly in a vice. What ever happened to the rip off clean up that we all contributed to last year to the boss man of the region?

I came back yesterday from Icmeler via Dalaman. The first X-ray machine at the entrance is ok, no problem with water etc. Then once you have checked in at the flight desk you have to go through another X-ray machine (before getting to passport control) where you have to surrender your water bottles. Only then can you go into the main departure lounge/duty free. So you would have to drink your water whilst waiting in the queue at check in otherwise you can't take it any further with you.

Once at the actual gate they were not using the X-ray machine, I walked straight in to the waiting area at the gate.

Hi Kalof
This seems to be the Standard Procedure, which is also being used at Airports in other countries.

they are being very clever by putting a new x-ray machine security check point before passport control
thats just so that people will buy food and drink at the airport

Don't forget that after you book in and get rid of the luggage you don't have to go straight through passport control and there are 2 cafes that do tea and cake for 5 lira which is very reasonable

Katiehutchinson_1991 wrote:duty free is in a duty free bag so they will know where its been bought from and it must not be opened before boarding
at antalya last october they were taking bottles of water off people and being very strict with the regulations
no one was allowed through into the gate with an liquids especially water even if they were bought within the airport
a lot of people tried to argue but the turkish authorities told them if you want the liquids you dont fly

I agree that it shouldnt be opened but as they never checked it how would they know it had not been opened?,also what if you put the duty free bag in your hand luggage may sound argumentative but those are scenarios that can and will take place

no idea about those situations but thats what they were telling people last october in antalya when they were arguing :)
so i take it that dalaman will be using the same procedure
yeah i know its for extra security ;) and i agree with that but its just a very clever place to put it especially when they have a security screening as soon as you get in the front door

Just to update as I flew back just over a week ago.

They have now moved the x-ray machines that were situated at the gates so that you go through them before passport and visa control.

Apparently a ploy so that once again we are forced to pay those prices at Dalaman.
