Jeep Safari

Postby redrhino12 » 08 Feb 2010 12:18

I wonder how many of you are like me and the wife.
When on the jeep safari we hate the continual bombardent with water, be it with Water Blasters,Bottles or hosepipes.
A few years ago we used to go on these safaris with just a couple of jeeps, maybe going through the occasional river.
Scenery was the focus as we traveled along the winding roads up mountains and through forests ,maybe a Turkish cottage, or once we stopped at a huge tent were turkish people were liveing, stopping at secluded beaches and just listening to the waves lapping the shore as we took in the suns rays as we lay on the sunbeds with Efes in hand.

Maybe its our age but the daughter also dislikes the water theme but needless to say Andre loves it and is the first in line to drench other jeepers,as I say maybe its an age thing, but when on holiday I love Tranquility during the day but a bit of boom boom at night.

A little moan from an old Wrinkly

A story from the archives on the Jeep Safari

One of the most exciting days out has got to
be the jeep safari to see The Blue Fish. The only time I have seen these timid creatures is on the jeep safaris from Icmeler.

Most trips do the waterfall and the carpet factory along with all the obligatory water fights but these jeep safaris gives us a chance to try and catch a rare view of these freaks of nature indiginouse to the Bozburun Penninsular.
Their habitat is among the deeper water near the river banks were the trees give some shade and cover.
It was not possible to see them this May due to the cold water temperatures and too much cloud cover, but on previous visits during the warmer summer months 2 or 3 jeeps full of tourists would park up near the river.
Leaving behind our water pistols and bottles and all thoughts off water fights dispelled as we set off walking down the river to confront nature at her quirkiest.

Ankle deep in water we slowly and quietly paddled our way towards the small breeding area.
There was no sound except for the water gurgling over a few rocks and stones that were in its path as it gently meandered on its way.
Birds call out to each other, warning that strangers are entering their world.
The guide stops and beckons us to an area of deeper water, trees lining the river with overhanging branches, the sun glinting through the leaves and sunbeams dancing on the water.
We all quietly move to the area were the guides are trying to coax out a small shoal of these shy elusive creatures into our sight.

A voice at the back whispers "I cant see anything",The secret is you have to get to the front,be patient and the reward of peering into the depths will surely be rewarded.

Everyone left happy, myselfe I felt humble, also a feeling of exhileration that I had just witnessed something that most people never experience on a normal jeep safari and that is the phenomena that is " The Blue Fish".

Nice review Gene.

Last year we had a jeep safari booked for the whole family from the guy next door to Vinces. Due to wee man not being up to it on the day,,it was Jacqui + our oldest boy + our daughter that only went on the safari. Your comments are exactly the same as Jacqui's........Blue fish, water pistols + a very wet day out. Great for the older kids but not ideal for some of us.

I would love to have a propper jeep safari (Nice relaxing drive around the area ).

In saying that  My daughter still talks about the blue fish :D

We went on a right rubbish jeep safari last May. Booked from a hassler on Marmaris front, there was one jeep full of asbo candidates on the tour, and they were pouring those huge 5l bottles filled with mucky river water over at every opportunity. The organisers manhandled some women, one of whom got hurt, and at one stage it was near a fight breaking out over one of the asbo lot having a pot at us.
Due the doc said to the mucky water, one child in our jeep developed an infection and there was a chance they wouldn't be allowed to fly back. I posted about this in the forum somewhere a few months back.

Jeep safari? Meh!

Must admit Gene it's the water pistols/fights etc that put us off doing this. Niamh loves the water if it's in the swimming pool or sea but she would freak out if people started bombarding her with water from pistols, water bombs etc. she would love to see the fish but it really isn't worth her getting really. Needless to say we always give these trips a wide berth.

Going back in July and would be well up for another jeep safari but have the in laws with us this time and i really don't think they'd be too impressed after the first hour, shame really.:-(
Fortunately we were prepared for all the water i.e waterproof bag for i pod, phones camera etc ,but i wonder how many aren't and have things ruined.
We enjoyed the whole experience but the last half an hour being covered in dirty water was a water fight too far,for me and my husband, the kids loved it though

We also had a fantastic time on the jeep safari, there were a few that took it a bit too far with the water but heho, it was expected. Done it once and don't think i'd do it again - but it was fun. :D

Mind you, i'd love to go on a jeep safari without all the water pistols and be guided by the driver, not in convoy, around the beautilful countryside .

Cheers John

I booked a jeep safari the first time i went to Icmeler but backed out at the last minute after being put off by stories of soakings and fights.

Is there any agent that offers a jeep safari as described by Redrhino above? Driving around the countryside enjoying the scenery, stopping for lunch etc? without the water-fights?

I must admit I have never been on a Jeep Safari for the same reason, don't mind abit of a water fight, but line in previous posts you will always get some idiots who will take it to far.

Years ago we used to go on the jeep safari's in Icmeler( no water fights then)just a lovely day out,we did one at Olu Deniz and it was fantastic driving thru little villages some had sprinklers that you drove under then back onto the dirt roads, onto Salikent gorge for a walk in the river into a mud bath and onto Pattara beach to clean our selves off and change our clothes. Wonderful day out.
