I have heard that lots of bar will be closing next year!!!

Rumour is that the council/mayor has advised that licenses should be issued to only one building so any bars that are connected to each other by being part of the same building (although different businesses) will lose their license.

Some of the most popular bars in the resort are said to be affected. Some that have been mentioned are Dreamboys, Dream 3 bells, De-ja Vu and Las vegas, but have heard that there are more than 20!!

Anyone know if there is any truth in this????

Pop Inn was also one of the bars which is said to be closing.

We were told the same , that a lot of the present bars and restaurants would not be allowed to open next year as the new Mayor wants to improve the resort and this is one of the ways he says it will be. It is also being said that the road by the Dreamboys is to be widened, why or how, dont know.

Deja Vu is definately open next year according to Turan who's one of the owners. I don't even think it's attatched to any other businesses

I expect a lot of places to be open next year still and I believe the ones that have closed will be because of poor business from this year.

the staff at pop inn said they were closing & it was opening as a supermarket doont know how true it is sad driving tourists away

I believe that this year was quite a good year for business for many places. I was there in May but did not think that the resort was that busy, but things did pick up in July August etc.

Now if they had such a good year why are palces closing is this simply on the instructions of the Mayor. How much power/influence does this man have

If the Euro stays as low as it has been I can see even more people going to Turkey next year. Having said that there does seem to be too many bars restaurants in the resort

I heard something along the lines of a restaurant must be just a restaurant (ie no after dinner entertainment) and a bar must just be a bar and can have entertainment but no food.

Not sure how correctly I understood it though, the person who was telling me was having trouble telling me in English and my Turkish isn't that advanced

Think after having such a good 2009 season they'd be best off leaving things as they are! If it ain't broke don't fix it!

If the rumours that the market is moving to the old village are true I can see lots of people shopping eating there on market day.

There are far too many bars and restaurants, I know everyone has to make a living but it may be good for the resort in the long run

I honestly do not think that a lot of these rumours will be true and if they are, we'll have to wait until next year to see. I'm sure somebody from ICR will be able to shed some light.

One restaurant owner I spoke to said that if the mayor makes it so hard for businesses to make money i.e. by banning dancing, high tax etc. then he thinks he will get assisanated

I didn't know whether to take it as a joke or not cos it seems to me this guys killing a lot of peoples livlihoods!

Please don't let Dream 3 Bells be closed next year! We only found it this year and had a great time!!

I would normally agree, but some of the names in the the equation are the busiest bars in the resort by the looks of things.

Yes, I know. I just honestly believe that a lot of them will not get their licenses revoked.

Worrying to that he also mentioned the mayor is planning on getting personal security!!
As an Icmeler local, he reckons that there's tension between the local business men and people who come in to Icmeler TO WORK and in his words "are taking over our village" - he put it a bit more bluntly than that and quantified what the problems actually are, I just feel that it's inappropriate for me to use the forum or PMs to go into the same detail he did.

Firstly, I apologise if you found some of that post inappropriate. I just think that it needs to be addressed in that way. I'm not sure that everybody realises the repercussions of what the mayor's doing.

I also heard that there will be a lot of changes. What changes I do not know ,but it was along the lines that the mayor was trying to return Icmeler to how it was years ago and to stop it becoming a place which attracts people who only go for the cheap booze, in fact to stop it ending up like Faliriki.
Ithink it would be good as there are so many bars competing against each other and blasting music to drown each other out.
I love Icmeler and return year after year but I don't think its a patch on how lovely it used to be.

Totally agree with you Skilly. I've always said if you want the 'boom boom' bars there's aplenty of them in Marmaris. Leave Icmeler the way its meant to be - small and beautiful!

Hi JohnnyH, apologies for not making myself clear - from what I've been told, I most certainly agree with your post
All I was saying was that I wasn't prepared to fully go into detail about what we'd been told about the changes by our friend as I feel it would be inappropriate for me to do so

The Icmeler grapevine has come up with the following bars that will be closed next season. (Allegedly) 1. Dreamboys 2.Dream 3 bells 3.De-ja-vu 4.Pop inn (to make way for an extended Dia Supermarket.) 5. Las Vegas 6. Harmony Bar 7.Sports Inn 8. Love Boat. Although it maybe a case of believe it when we see it next season.

The Stella show is moving to the robin hood bar on the main road to the old village
we was told this in July and also in September.
