Working In Icmeler

Although I realise you are a travel agency but as I have used your service before and found you so helpful I was hoping I may be able to help me with some general advice.

Myself and my friend are looking at travelling next year and would love to be able to go to Icmeler to work for the summer season. I have spoken with the Turkish Embassy and realise that there is no general work visa and that a work visa can only be obtained by receiving a job offer from a company before you travel to Turkey.

We have experience in the following areas:-
- bar staff
- waitressing
- club/restaurant manager
- english teaching (TEFL qualified)
- computing

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way that I can apply to businesses in Icmeler to see if any are looking to employ British staff for next years Summer season?

I wouldnt know of any real way of contacting business' in icmeler to work-other than going out there and asking personally,or if you have any contact details of places there-do it that way.
I was there for the season last year (although i didnt work) i knew of many english people working out there in bars/cubs...as there are this year.
It will be very hard to come by a working permit,as basically as im lead to believe these are given to you for doing a job that a turkish person cant (so for bar work etc it would be hard to obtain a work permit)

Like i say the best way probably would be to contact any places that you know of or go out there and speak to them direct.

I think it's near impossible to do such as bar work. Something often quoted by people going to Turkey, is how refreshing it is not to be served by someone from Barnsley in the bars, this in large measure to the work laws.

If you want to work over the summer season, you might have a lot more success looking say in Mallorca, Tenerife or other traditional costa places.

I am sure I read somewhere that you did not need a work visa for the travel reps etc . if I am wrong I am sure I will be quickly corrected.

There have been threads on here in the past about working in Turkey - I'm sure if you do a search you will find them, because they were full of useful information.
I know my daughter was thinking about trying to find a job in Icmeler and it's a lot more difficult than it might seem. It's very difficult to get a working visa, so of course, people will take the risk of working without one - but if you get caught, it's a serious business.
I certainly don't want to pour cold water on anyone's hopes of working in Turkey, but it's not something to be done lightly. You've got to look into all the legal implications very seriously.
Also, if you're thinking about going over and then trying to find work, I'd make sure you save enough to cover your living costs for the first few months (and probably your return fare home too), just in case things don't work out. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks very much for all your replies, they have been really helpful and I appreciate them.

I had heard it was really hard to get a job in Turkey but was hoping someone may have known a way round it

Dont like the idea of going over there and working illegally, I still get guilt for taking a penny sweet out of the shop without paying for it when I as 7 years old so not sure I would be able to sleep at night knowing that I could get thrown out of the country.

Think my best bet is to try the english teacher route, so my new question is this.....

- Does anyone know of english schools in Icmeler/Marmaris that run over the summer i.e. the private schools that usually do more adult level courses as I am qualified to teach english as a foreign language so may be able to get work there if I can make contact with a school to get a job offer????
