passport control

Hi everyone, due to fly out to Icmeler with the family in a couple of weeks, on booking the holiday was told by travel agent that I need to put £10 in passport to avoid any problems when arriving in Turkey, there are 4 of us so this good be £40 for nothing, was wondering if anyone else as had the same advice or if this is in fact necessary.

Yes you will need to go to the desk at the side of the Border Police Kiosks. You pay your £10 they then put a sticker in your passport, you then go to the Border Police kiosks who will then date stamp your passport. All very straight forward the que goes down in no time. We actually cleared the aiport in 25 mins in june so that was good.

Don't forget that if you give the visa police a Scottish £10 they will not accept it. They are also fussy about 'grotty' tenners so make sure they are not ripped or screwed up. I know I'm sad but I iron ours before we go and put them in a safe place ready to dish out. Our flight lands at 0420 so we want to clear the airport and get the children into our own transfer minibus as soon as possible.
If you give the visa police a £20 they will only stamp 1 passport and not give you any change, so get your tenners ready.
We can still remember when the visa was only £5

Also make sure there is no writing on the notes as I have known them refuse these also-we always check these before we go but last year we noticed a tiny rip in one of ours whilst sitting in newcastle airport so we had it changed at the bar just to make sure!

Don't have the problem with ripped or grotty English notes, as they're like a foreign currency up here and always have to go to the bank for them so they are usually new. Its quite annoying that they don't accept Scottish notes, they are legal tender after all and what really got me is the fact that Turkish airlines won't accept them on the flight. So when I go on holiday I have travellers cheques, some lira, English money and Scottish money

Hmm! they are very fussy and VERY serious, don't be put off by their lack of joviality, or even a slight hint of a smile, it always amuses me where they get the staff from because they are totally different to all the other turkish/kurdish people who are so friendly once you get out of the airport.

Suppose they have a job to do and maybe it's a bit boring, but you'll know what I mean when you see them.

never mind about the ten pounds going as you make up for it with the low costs once in resort but they get you on the way back as dalaman airpot is one of the most exspenive i have ever been to last year can of effes 10 lr even Mcds for those so called happy meals till you see the price but there again it would not be a holiday if you didnt get ripped of somewhere just enjoy we always do

be careful........last summer, i put £10 note in each passport and handed them to the man in the box.....i saw him take 4 £10 notes, put one under the counter, and he then asked me for another....

i told him politely it had gone under the counter.....

so, now i hand over 4 passports and then 4 £10 notes seperatly

I do the same, count the money out seperately .
