Beer prices set as of 1st July?

Postby billyjoarmstrong » 09 Jul 2009 16:05

I am off to Icmeler in 10 weeks and can't hardly wait but ive been hearing some things about this new Mayer. Firstly the market seems to have come to a halt or greatly reduced and now that all bars must sell their beer at the same price, £2! Does anyone know if this is true?

Have a look at

http://www.icmeleronline.com/forum/view ... ight=mayor

The mayor is not new as such, he was in power for 20 years and bulit Icmeler in to the resort it is today, he lost power in 2003 and has just regained power.

I heard from the Mayors daughter that there has been a minimum and maximum price set for drinks.

The beer in June was 2.5 or 3 lira a pint, and the exchange rate was 2.51 so you can see a pint of efes was £1 or £1.20, all depends on exchange rate. The trouble in the market is still brewing on and off, we were told it was because certain traders were'nt paying their rents or something like that. There is still dancing etc in the bars but they have to keep an eye out for the police, we saw dancing and loud music in some bars when the police were close by and they did nothing about it yet in other bars they were really worried, i think it depends how the police feel or how much they can get out of the bars, we saw one bar owner talking to the police van outside his bar and he went running in and got drinks for them and then they left without taking any action. So don't panic not that much has changed, one nice thing we saw that we thought the mayor had done was to make all the ice cream sellers along the beach walk on a night time wear a traditional Turkish costume, a nice little touch.

Only just joined but have followed the forum for 3 years+

I actually put up a topic along these lines yestrday on another Forum and got almost no replies. As brief background will be going to Icmeler for the 3rd time in early October for 2 weeks and was curious about what I had read earlier about the "new" Mayor. I have only had a reply and a ps from 1 person (I suspect she is posting under another name here)!

It will be 2 years between visits and one thing I love about Turkey is the lack of change. I also love the Champion, Tin Tin, Jimmy Okima area for a quiet escape from the hullaballoo. I am not too bothered about mild price increases and I did go to Dalyan just a few weeks ago and no price surprises there. What I really want is to go back and it is pretty much as it was.

I have rambled on but I would love to see people as they visit continue to add their feelings about changes, if any, for those of us who will follow.

Thanks

John

Everywhere seemed to be mostly 3 lira for 0.5L. Generally the exception
was 4Lira.

The market is still there but I don't know why/how. Miles and miles of tat.

Music seems to close at midnight even if the bar doesn't. I saw police cruising around but they only seemed to be around close to midnight to ensure the music was shut down.
