Altinkum......not icmeler :-(

Postby sophia » 16 Jun 2009 20:46

HI guys

can anyone tell me what is Altinkum is like please? how does it compare to Icmeler?

I went to Icmeler in May and was hoping to return in September but it seems the rest of the family have decided on Altinkum!! I'm devastated!!

Can anyone tell me what ALtinkum is like?? Do the waiters dance in the bars like in Icmeler - I've stayed in Hisaronu before and that wasn't the case!!

So so so sad!

Altinkum

Postby D Craddock » 16 Jun 2009 20:59

My first visit to Turkey was to Altinkum. I thought it was ok, enjoyed ourselves etc. But something did not quite seem right and decided our incursion to to Turkey would be a one of.
However we decided we should try again you should not base opinions on one visit. So we found ourselves in Icmeler via a recomendations. That was in 1998, since with the exception of one year we have visited eversince.
I think you will happy in Icmeler.

I have been to Icmeler 9 times in the past 6 years so I suppose I should go try somewhere else but I will definately be back to Icmeler in May 2010!

Hopefully I will enoy Altinkum, its Turkey so how could I not?? But I will miss Icmeler and all my friends there!

I live in Altinkum but love Icmeler. The two do not compare at all. Icmeler is small and quiet, Altinkum is loud cheap and in your face. The bars in Dolphin Square are aimed at the younger generations but families are equally catered for. There are a few night clubs. The plus for me are the original Turku/Kurd misic bars. "Real" live music, genuine halay dancing. NO HASSLE at all in these bars but the square and 2nd beach hassle is a pain in the ass. The beach is superb,, sandy and shallow and soooo blue. There are plenty of places of interest a short way from Altinkum, Appollon Temple just one.

I hope you enjoy your stay. Please visit Yesilkent beach a small ride away on the dolmus, a delightful quiet beach with a nice restaurant Al Dente, You will find this a family beach with mainly Turk/muslim holiday makers. Brilliant place.

Thanks for that kath - but after a couple of trips down memory lane and reading a couple of other reviews on Altinkum my mum & aunt were easily persuaded to return to icmeler :-)

Im extremely happy so I love it& will get to see all my friends. Me & my friend probably would of had a great time in Altinkum as we are only 20 but at the end of the day we can never draw ourselves away from Icmeler! Its my friends first visit to Turkey so can't wait to introduce her to all the lovely places.

Sorry, but there is no place on earth like Icmeler.

It would be nice if someone could explain to us all why we are all so taken by this place, but I'm sure all of you feel like we do, there is no explanation to convey our feelings. It has a magnetic effect on us all.

I don't no what it is about Icmeler - a mixture of the people/beauty of the place etc. I always say when I get to Icmeler I feel at home, its like a little piece of heaven!!

Oh and Donna - you're right Icmeler is the best!! You might remember us, we are the family who had to leave my brother behind @ Gatiwck because he didn't have 6 months left on his passport and so he missed 2 days of the week!!

Can't wait to return & this time its an all girls holiday so even better :-)

Oooooooh I know where you mean. Thanks.

Will make a note to try it September. We are determined to try a couple of new places as normally end up in the same places because of friends working their etc. But this time we've booked 10 nights instead of 7 so gives us a bit more time :-)
