It is illegal in turkey to own any endangered species (that includes all primates). Turkey is a signatory to 'Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species' more often refered to as 'CITES' and as such should be enforcing the law. It makes me sick to the pit of my stomach to see animals abused in this way. If the new mayor wants to do something really useful he should ensure that the illegal abuse of animals in his town is brought to a stop. Then it should be followed up by a programme of education. The culture has to be changed - for the better. Education and enforcement is the only way.
