yes i we saw the monkey when we were there , my daughter was amazed by it and couldnt understand why she wasnt allowed to get out her pushchair to give it a cuddle!!
It was in quite a small cage, the owner was telling us that it was only a few weeks old,he was hand feeding him his dinner, felt quite sorry for the little thing.

Well I would boycott the jewellers
We definately will do the same, and if they try to ask us in they will be told the reason why.

i thought bars, shops etc were not allowed to have animals to use as enticement for people to in to their places. it would be enough to put me off

I would definitely NOT go into any places which had animals like that. It's the reason I've not tried a certain restaurant which has received good reviews for its food - because it has animals as an attraction.

We seen the monkey being transported in a basket on the front of a bicycle, I'm sure the guy lives on one of the boats at the harbour.

looks like the monkey is having the opposite affect to what its supposed to

Could I be the only one who saw the title of the thread and thought "Ahhhhh Pigsy"
EDIT: Sorry no pics allowed in this forum
OK, I'll get my coat.

Sheepy it must be people of a particular age group, i.e. in 40's or over that would have wwatched it lol. I rember the bad dubbing and mouths going the opposite way.
On the animal topic it would put me off, i feel sorry for dolphins as well in pens, would rather see them chasing a boat in freedom.
But if the monkey is well fed and has a long lead as it gets older and isnt in a cage might be bearable. Its the cultural differences isnt it, such as Collettes campaign for the street cats and we always feed the strays as well.
If they want an animal they can have my stupid cavalier KC Spaniel who ate a toilet roll this morning and chews under wear.

Where does colette stand on this one !

I don't agree with it at all, and I hope Turkey never get into the EU till they learn to respect animals and stop abusing them.
I keep hearing about the new mayor, he wants the music off earlier, he wants the resort to stay open later to extend season opening times, etc etc but I want to know what he is doing with the immediate problems.
Monkeys don't belong in cages, or on leads to be used as a gimmick to entice people into there restaurants, same as putting rabbits outside or having a cat curled up on a chair etc. and yes I do tell them so when I am there.
It's the one thing that puts me of going to Icmeler. They may treat them well during the season, but we all know at the end of season, the poison goes down for the cats, and peoples pets eat it. who knows what happens to the rabbits and monkeys.
All I ask is that if you see this happening, tell them you won't eat there and walk away.
03 Jul 2009 09:57
yeah i completely agree with you colette its horrible what they do to animals
i dont want turkey to get into the EU but they need to change their ideas about some things
i really hope this monkey has a negative effect on the tourists and the business loses a lot of custom as there is no way they should be enticing customers with a monkey
its completely wrong

Funny how some people seem to be upset about the monkey, yet still think it's ok for some restaurants to use animals as a gimmick. I've deliberately avoided one particular restaurant which gets recomendations on here for that very reason.

yeah blondie your right its horrible to think that they are using animals as a gimmik
it should be stopped and they shouldnt be allowed to do it

Sorry, didn't know you couldn't post pics in this forum. It was a picture from an old tv series called "Monkey" - originally Chinese, it was famous in it's own lunchtime for terrible dubbing and acting - but this is what made it so good
But back on subject, I can see where people, and especially Colette are coming from regarding Turkey's treatment of animals, but I'm not sure this could be used against an admittance to the EU. Spain and Malta for a start off have atrocious records on animal treatment - some Spanish festival "fun" leave a lot to be desired.
Yes though, there's no way I'd want to eat somewhere with a caged monkey outside.
There's a restaurant in Cala n Bosch in Menorca we wouldn't go in because they had for table decorations, live goldfish, squeezed into jam jars on every table

Their loss, we weren't alone on that.

We noticed last August that several places had puppies to entice people, in particular Staffy pups. One place was Mummy Tattooist, also several shops and a couple of bars had them. It would be interesting to know if these places still have these dogs now as one year olds, or if they have been dumped to make way for this seasons new puppy. I know that not everyone does this, but my English friend who has lived in
Icmeler for years says this is common practice.

i totally disagree with using these poor animals. it's disgusting
maybe a petition could be started and given to the mayor stating that people from the uk disagree and will not be eating or giving any trade in the places that are using animals, or mabe petitions given to the places that are doing it
we all disagree but unless we do something nothing will be done,
and these poor animals will continue to be miserable.
just a thought
