New to the forum and Icmeler but so excited to go

Postby Georgina osborne » 09 Jun 2009 23:36

Hi,

My husband and I are going to icmeler on the 19th of June so in a week and a bit. I am so excited - like a child at Christmas. I was wondering if anyone has just returned from Icmeler and can give me some idea on the cost of things: beer, wine, lunch, evening meal, spirits, soft drinks, cigarettes etc.

I was also wondering what you can get lira wise for the pound in Icmeler. I know the rate at the moment here is 2.48 lira to the pound.

We are going on a bed and breakfast basis and I am trying to budget our money so any idea of costs would be great. We are staying at the Elif Hotel - any comments would be great good or bad even though I have aleady booked it and paid for it now.

Also we are looking to do a few trips through ICR:
ICR day trip,
Dalyan,
Diving,
Turkish bath

Any comments on these would be good to. Do they run on Sundays aswell and what is included - food, drink etc?

Sorry for rambleing on but as I mentioned I am completely over excited :D for this trip and to my husbands dismay i have been making holiday itinaries and budgets for the last few weeks now.

Thank you

Hi Georgina and welcome.

The prices question has been asked today and you can get your answers at the following link:-

http://www.icmeleronline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8175

With regards to exchange rate I think the rate you have quoted is the interbank rate so you will get less if changing money here, In Icmeler I would imagine the rate is about 2.44 at the moment, it's best to change your money there unless you have a nationwide card which will give you the interbank rate when you withdraw cash.

With regards to the trips, the only one I have done is the Mud Baths and Dalayan trip which is good fun, quite a long day but really enjoyable, I highly recommend the jeep safari but be prepared to get dirty and wet.

Have a great holiday.

Just a word about the Elif, if you don't want to have a drink or a meal in the bar/restaurant then use the other entrance to and from the hotel or they will pester the life out of you, some people found it quite nasty last year, not trying to put you off or anything but i have heard the bar/restaurant has changed owners so it might be different this year.

I would like to mention the Elif, we had friends who stayed there last September and you could not have met a nicer bunch of staff. The staff were really nice, so helpful and not once did our friends get hassled for going elsewhere. In fact out of choice we spent a few nights in the Elif (for turkish night etc) and had a really good night with them. I know in the past the staff have been slated for their attitudes etc but no problems at all in 2008 as far as we were concerned :D

We met a young couple last September, who's holiday had just about been ruined by the attitude of the bar staff at the Elif, because they would not drink in there and preferred the bar over the road that was much cheaper they were ridiculed and threatened, the boy who was a bit overweight had the mickey taken out of him when he answered back, some of the staff offered to fight with him, they got nothing but hassle their whole holiday, and had to sneak in and out of the hotel, if they were spotted the name calling and hassle started again, what a charming bunch.

This is the second year of the new staff and I found them very polite with no hassle at all but do know 3 years ago there were problems with the old owners.

No Colette it was only in September 9 months ago, we were stuck at the airport with the couple involved because of XL going bust, it just shows how peoples opinions differ because 3 years ago we had a couple of meals and often had drinks in there and we found them no problem at all, oh there was one they could'nt get the England match on the tv. :)

We stayed at the Elif last June and had no problems, the staff were friendly, we did not drink in the bar apart from one on the way out and the last one before going to our room, this was not due to pressure we just like going to other places and seeing friends. I'm sure you will have a great time Georgina and I bet you come back with the Icmeler bug.

welcome to the forum , I have never stayed at the Elif, sorry to hear about the chap who had bother, but my experience all over Icmeler is that a polite no thank you usually suffices. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time, Actually I'd put money on it! :D I returned a few weeks ago and am gutted because I'm not going again this year. I'll be booking as soon as possible though for next May! :D Enjoy your holiday and trips. ICR won't let you down!

Thank you everyone for all your comments. Atleast I don't feel so stupid for being so excited about this trip. This time next week I would have finished work and it will be my last night before we fly on the friday. I have finished packing about 5 times now and just keep visiting this sight for stories and advise.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it is worth getting cigarettes from the resort and the cost of them or should I stick to the airport?

Also has anyone done the diving trip? Can I have any comments on this as I am really interested in it but I am trying to fit so much into 7 days I was thinking on leaving the diving for another time as my husband thinks we are not even going to get a chance to relax with all my planning and itinaries.

Hi Georgina, we did the diving trip a couple of years ago now and its fantastic, it realy is another world. Just make sure you book with a reputable company i'm sure ICR do this, but a must if you have the time it is a full day and you normally get a couple of dives. We both found it very tiring being both 50 somethings but worth it.

HI and welcome G, we still get sooo excited and we've been too many times to count hehehe
it's coming on here that keeps me going - and a friendlier site I don't think you could come across

re the diving trip, don't do it myself [don't even get my face wet in the shower!] but I beleive Michael at the Harmony, he's the drag artiste, doubles up as a diving instructor during the day
belting chap he is too
the Harmony's near the jetty at the far end of the beach away from Marmaris, they could advise unless of course, ICR can sort you out?
you'll have a great time am sure
don't forget to let us know what you think when you get back
