Is it going to be the same

Postby quaker57 » 31 May 2009 16:15

Is it just me or is anybody else getting bad vibes from some of the posts about what is happening in Icmeler this year ie the new Mayor and the council, first i hear he is upsetting the people who supply the sunbeds on the beach, secondly i hear there is trouble at the market, some of the traders are not going to be allowed to trade, i'v heard it might just become fruit and veg market, thirdly i have heard he is clamping down on entertainment in the bars/restaurants, and now i'v just read a post that say's the council is making all bars charge 4ytl for a bottle of Efes, what the hell is going on, do they want tourists or not, iwonder if it's got anything to do with Turkey's new government and all the new rules they are trying to implement, i watched a programme a few weeks ago about Istanbul and a lot of bar owners were saying they were making it very hard for them to get new licences, and a lot of bars were closing, i hope Turkey is'nt going to turn into one of them hard line Muslim countries.

HI, we just got back on friday & not much had changed since last year the prices have gone up a bit on food & clothes shopping but hubby was pleased as Efes was still the same price!! last week the market was shut down due to some new rules that the traders were not happy with I heard it was something to do with the amount of stalls 1 family runs! :? so it was just fruit & veg market but we got same prices at the small underground market !! & not as much hassle!! It was quiet though no wher near as busy as it has been for the past 3 years!!

Thx for the heads up ali, strange it being quiet when the experts have been telling us all year that tourists are abandoning euro countries and that Turkey is going to be very busy this year, it's 2 weeks tomorrow we go hope it livens up a bit by then. :)

2 weeks tomorrow for us as well quaker57 and while I like a little quiet now and then I hope that the new mayor will not spoil things for the tourists as I like to go for a meal and a drink and some entertainment a few nights a week. Can imagine the impact this would all have on the bars/restaurants etc. Also heard that because of the euro Turkey would be very popular this year , lets hope that all the changes do not spoil things as it is the only thing most of us look forward to and work hard for for the rest of the year. Will soon know , 14 more sleeps. Can not wait

We came back last week and we also found it quite a lot quieter than previous years, although the last 3 days on the beach it was packed and I couldnn't undrestand why it was so quiet as I had seen that Turkey and Egypt are the top destinations this year. Whether more people are going AI or there are less flight going out this year. The market was on and selling everything when we were there, but there was something going on lots of officials and police checking every stall and lots of stallholder seemed quite angry with what was going on.

aw but that's partly why we go to Icmeler ......... where else in the world could you get to see sooo many Michael Jacksons and Tina Turners EVERY night
the cheap booze is a bonus too
top all that off with music stopping at midnight and throw in a bit of the usual Turkish hospitality and we may have to keep returning for another several years ......... :D

Sunny it's pretty obvious that you hav'nt been to Icmeler, because you would know that the entertainment and "loud music" stops at midnight not "at all hours" and yes we do want cheap beer and entertainment in the bars and restaurants, even with all of that it is nothing remotely like Spain, Icmeler has great friendly atmosphere, and of course if people don't want cheap beeretc then they can always go back to Spain where it certainly is'nt cheap anymore.

I think we want 'value for money', cheap beer attracts the fools that get this country a bad name, we all want a good bargain and enjoy a few drinks but we dont want idiots slurping ridiculously cheap beer and wanting to fight the world.

Suppose its that old phrase everything in moderation.

Personally its soft drinks that are very dear, other alcohol I'll have in the apartment and have 1 or 2 when out thats how most of us combat any rises in price.

The Turkish government seem to be like ours and tax, booze and fuel.

Unbelieveable that in Turkey their fuel is dearer than ours, didnt think it was possible.

I'd rather he imported proper sand for the beach  .

9 and a bit weeks to go! I imagine his proposed changes will be in full flow by then.

Just thought perhaps the same price for efes everywhere is so that bars get equal business but thats a bit too much command and control going on.
