Baggage Excess

Postby Sue » 29 May 2009 18:09

We arrived back this morning and thought i would let you all know that on the flight from Manchester airport the checkin for Onur air were checking weights in hand luggage and suitcases, we were over the limit but they just gave us a friendly warning. This morning we checked in and had to pay £5 per kilo over the limit, we were over 5kilos so had to be escorted to another desk to pay £25.00. When I asked them about this procedure they said they have a contract with a company to collect money from all passangers over the limit. This might only apply to onur air but there was quite a large queue for this as most people were over weight flying with Onur air. so please be aware of this as they are not letting anyone off

I think this is with all flights we came back on Monday on a Thomson flight and the people over the limit had to go to a different desk to pay.

we flew back with onur air on saturday, the scales wern't even switched on and they never checked our hand luggage ,perhaps it had to do with there only having 19 passengers we wern't exactly over weight so we could have brought home what we wanted ,the stewardesses never had such an easy shift

Has anyone this year combined luggage allowances together, eg 1 case weighing 25Kg and the other 15Kg for two people, so total weight is correct. It was fine last year but just checking it's OK for this year.

There are actually four of us but we only take 3 large suitcases with the 80Kg allowance spread across the three cases.

Has anyone flown with Thomas Cook this year? We have 15kg's each, does our hand luggage need to come within that?

Thanks
Amy

Hi Fraser500 check out the thread Rip Off , lots of conflicting reports about luggage allowances with T***** C**** this year, hand luggage is seperate to you main allowance your tickets will tell you the exact amounts, but as the other thread will tell you you may be suprised when they arrive and have a 20kg allowance with out having to have paid the extra.

Hi Amy

We are with TC and we have a 15kg hold allowance and 5kg hand luggage allowance, we didnt pay for the extra.

Just weighed them both now and they are both under the 15kg so should be fine for the return with the shopping after using up all the toiletries and tins of red salmon
