Customs Notice Dalaman

08 May 2009 18:05

Hi All

new customs notice for Dalaman as follows

[b]It is strictly forbidden to purchase and/or carry any counterfeit goods, especially alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, tobacco, cosmetics, historical monuments etc. in accordance with custom rights and there are heavy penalties in Turkey for those who are caught with these goods.

With the increasing number of tourists arriving and departing, security precautions have been increased at the airport, especially for smuggling of cigarettes and tobacco.

Your luggage will be scanned for illegally sold products, will be opened and if necessary, seized by the security force.

Watch your allowances while shopping inflight. Upon entrance to Turkey, the allowances are restricted to 3 cartons of cigarettes and 4x75 cl. or 2x1 lt. of spirits. Purchases exceeding the limit will lead to seizure and penalty at the customs control.[/b

I've never seen any customs people at Dalaman in all the years I've been passing through... anyone know where they hang out?

I knew there were restrictions but didn't realise you're only allowed to take 2 litres of spirtis in

Wonder if the "counterfeit goods" policy relates to taking fakes in or out of Turkey...

Is that 600cigs per adult then??

08 May 2009 19:57

I assume the restrictions are per person :D :D :D

08 May 2009 19:59

Yes, definitely 600 cigs per person, that's been the case for a while... I guess the other limits are per person too

We got stopped going in a couple of years ago :o Thought the guy was going to search all our cases (6). He asked about the cigs that were in a duty free bag but was fine with the explanation :D Then a guy who did look really dodgy got stopped behind us and we were waved on our way

hoollddd on im confused, so if 4 of us r flying on monday we can only take 8 littres of duty free spirits into turkey???

09 May 2009 08:57

im a smoker and so is the wife, so is it better to get duty free at airport or on plane, because other places ive been to its cheaper at the resort,we will take spirits, its the hassle hand lug cases then bags with the duty free.

09 May 2009 09:04

I am well confused, when you shop in the duty free you are advised that you can take 5 litres of spirits per person in. They even swap the bottles if you have`nt picked up the right size ! . As for the cigarrettes i buy mine on arrival, and yes it is 3 cartons into resort .

09 May 2009 09:05

I always get my cigs at the airport Medbug as there are usually good offers on. Also a lot of the cigs in resort are "fake".

Hi Guys for information purposes, You are entitled to bring 200 cigarettes into turkey if purchased in England , and you can purchase 400 cigarettes here at the duty free. The allowance for 600 cigarettes is only if bought on arrival in Turkey.

Alcohol you can purchase 2 litres in Turkey on arrival, but your allowance in the Uk is only meant to be 1 litre per person that can be brought in from an outside country

On returning to the Uk you are officially only allowed to take 200 cigarettes into the Uk and 1 litres of spirits.

Official list of allowance back to UK

200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250g tobacco
2 litres of still table wine
1 litre of spirits or strong liqueurs over 22% volume or 2 litres of fortified wine, sparkling wine or other liqueurs
60cc/ml of perfume
250cc/ml of Eau de toilette/ cologne
£145 worth of all other goods including gifts and souvenirs

once landed, can we still get alcohol from turkish duty free, or is that too restricted....?

10 May 2009 08:53

Hi Karen

there is a duty free shop in arrivals that you can buy from but you will have to watch your allowance if you have already bought in the uk or on the plane :D

Thanks for that info Shaz. But I'm confused about the amount of spirits you can bring INTO Turkey. At Manchester, the allowance is 5 litres of spirits per person. Although you have a valid receipt, does this mean that these goods will be seized on arrival???

Confused!! :?
