yeah you must have 6 months left on your passport on your return date
which means the end of your holiday not the start
the turkish authorities are very strict on this and will stop people from travelling due to their passport being invalid
hope this helps

hi

Luckily we knew about this but it meant that my daughter, my dad and stepmom all had to renew their passports for the holiday but as Jozzyd pointed out when you spread the cost over 10 years then its well worth it for the peace of mind.

Hope the other family get sorted.

See you soon

The same thing nearly happened to us. We only noticed a few days ago that our sons passport was going to run out. So I have been on the passport site and renewed on line. Just waiting now for them to send the form for us to sign.
Good job we noticed when we did as we go on the 4th July. phew!!!!
Should get the new one back on time (I hope).

Just to add to my last post i also had to change my passport into married name as i had booked both our holidays in my married name but still had 5 years left on the old passport so was begrudging paying another £72 but it only took 5 days with the PO check and send service.

The best thing is they have added the extra 5 years on with another 6 months as well so am very pleased that i do not lose out.

Well we just read this and i said to the wife, "just check ours duck", she says nothing to worry about ours are all fine, i said no just have a check to be on the safe side and low and behold the kids passports ran out in April!!
I think we just forgot that the kids (15 and under) only last 5 years & it only seems like yesterday when we initially got them passports.
Needless to say we filled the forms out online and are waiting for them to arrive but we are not departing until July 26th so no problem there.

Thanks for the heads up though, i dont think we would have checked otherwise!

I'm so glad to hear that the son has got his holiday with his family sorted, it must have been a nightmare for them! As somebody else has said, the years pass by so quickley it's easy to forget about checking dates.

I went into a hot sweat when I saw this post (because I go next week!) and checked all my family's, I was surprised to see that 2 of them need renewing next year, it's flown by! I know my situation isn't urgent but I probably would have put passports away after hol in Sept then not looked at them again until the next years holiday, so thanks Donna for highlighting it, and hope the family have a great time.

that's great news that he's not going to totally miss out - thanks for the reminder Donna, looks like you've saved a few other near misses with the reminder!
where else would you get that kind of thoughtfulness - sums this forum and ICR up IMHO
total stars, all of you

This is a great post Donna, just to remind everyone what can happen if they don't renew their passport in time. I was booking our airport hotel last weekend and checked the passports when I was putting the confirmation in my folder and my OH passport runs out this month. Needless to say the form was filled in and posted on Tuesday. Just hoping it comes through in time as we fly out on 11th June, a little close for comfort but keeping fingers crossed.
