First timer advice

Postby steve-mcr » 03 May 2009 13:19

Only six weeks to go now to our first trip to Icmeler so I'm starting to get some information together.

One of the highlights of our holiday will be trying a new restaurant each evening so I'm looking for recommendations for places serving great food in a nice setting. We will be looking for places that concentrate on the food and have a nice friendly atmosphere rather than having entertainment, performing waitors etc! It doesn't really matter what cuisine they serve, as we like pretty much everything, but we do prefer to eat at places that are viewed as restaurants, rather than pubs or bars that serve food.

We'll also be looking to do a trip or two whilst we are there. Can anyone suggest a good half day boat trip? Anything longer than that and I start to feel sick!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Chef restaurant is the place I would recommend. It's next door to the Loveboat. Chef restaurant is a family concern and one of the few in Icmeler that has had the same owner and high standards every year for at least the last 7 to my knowledge. It's always better to make a reservation as it,s always busy (a very good sign for a restaurant in my book). Have a wonderful time and enjoy the food I'm sure you will.
p.s. Check out the toilets another good sign in my book, very clean.

if you want a restaurant rather than a bar that serves food.... then wayside is just the job.  the food and ambience are second to none.  highly recommended as others have said on here.

I can recommend Vince's restaurant, underneath Demircioglu Apartments. The roast leg of lamb for 2 on a Sunday is delicious.

I recomend the following.

Love Boat - Spotlessly clean, the food is very nice. Staff very attentive without being over bareing.

Wayside - Kind of rustic feel to the place. The food is very nice, and you can get things in there that alot of the other restraunts don't offer.

Waterfall - Has a waterfall with ducks and geese swimming in it. Nice relaxing background music. Very relaxing place.

To be honest though you will be hard pushed to find a bad meal there. But I am like you I would rather eat in a restraunt rather than a bar. As I walk past some bars in the evening and people are eating meals while the music is blareing and waiters are running like madmen with cocktail bowls on their head, and I think I wouldn't like to eat my meal in the environment.

My favourite is Venice although entertainment does start at 10pm it is a nice restraunt and I cannot fault the food they serve and has nice relaxing music whilst dinner is being served.

I liked the Taj Mahal for an indian but the last couple of years I've not been too keen. I also love The Florida great atmosphere and lovely food.

As the others have said the Love Boat is great as is Villa Kontes on the canal but you get the loud music from Korsan and Dreamboys, there is too much too choose from lol

I haven't tried it myself but a few people have recommended Marios along the beach front for Italian, its on my to do list for this year.

Have a great holiday, you will be spolit for choice! Where abouts are you staying?

Hi steve

My recommendations for restauarnts you must try are:

Ozzys (at the crossroads just a little way up into the old village (about 10 mins from the centre)
The Lighthouse (in the centre next to ATMs)
Chef (top of canal next to Loveboat (also good))
Wayside (just up the road from the Tansas supermarket)
Olive Tree (Bonjour hotel) (2 doors down from the lighthouse)

Food is lovely in all these places, no loud music or dancing on the bars!

I would also recommend a stroll to the Cafe Del Mar (bottom of canal turn left and keep walking past the big hotels, it's just up a slight hill) - lovely setting with fantastic views over Icmeler bay, especially at night.

And of course the Magic Garden (tucked away behind the Lighthouse) great for a drink or three!

There are some great boat trips on offer either through people such as ICR or bookable down on the beach. Not sure about half day trips but the sea is generally like a millpond so you wouldn't get too sea sick!
What you could do is get a water taxi to Turunc the next resort on from Icmeler, boats go regularly from the jetty, or you could go on to Amos or Kumlubuk if you fancy a change of beach.

Sure you'll love it!

Regarding boat trips Icr online do a great boat trip and as said above water is very calm, but u can get a half day boat trip from a stall on beach front usually either 4 hours am or 4 hours pm and when we did this 2 years ago it only cost £5,

As for restaurants some of my favourates are the loveboat, venice, florida, lighthouse and waterfall.

I find the Taj Mahal in marmaris better, you can sit up on the roof terrace and eat. Very nice food, prices and offers are the same as in Icmeler.
