Hi if you send a text message or telephone a turkish mobile , it should NOT cost the receipient a penny.

If you ring and english phone to an english mobile if someone is staying in turkey then yes it will cost both of you i believe.

hiya
it will cost you about 55p to send a text to a turkish phone (vodafone's price) but it wont cost ur turkish friend anything to recieve it
if your going to be texting him a lot them i strongly recommend getting your phone unlocked and buy a turkish sim card so you can use that instead of getting ripped off with the english phone companies prices
hope this helps
if you phone it will cost you a lot but wont cost them anything either i dont think but it might

Thanks for the replies. Have been phoning my friend in Turkey from UK landline as I wasn't sure about the charges on a mobile.
Katie I hadn't thought about getting my phone unlocked and buying a Turkish sim card so I'll now investigate that.
Thanks again.

Cheap calls from English landline to Turkish mobile.

Postby Buncase » 08 Apr 2009 21:17

Hi

I'm in England and phone my hubby in Turkey every day, here are the prices ...........

I have 2 phones ......

O2 charge 50p/min
10p per text
I use this for texting him only.
I'm on My Country (?) so use my free minutes from top-ups
Always use this phone for texting though.

Talk Talk charge 14p/min
15p per text
When O2 free mins have finished I then used to phone on my Talk Talk line but ...............

I have recently discovered 18185 which a web site which charges only 8p/min from English landline to Turkish mobile.

Because my landline is BT line/Tiscali calls I have the 18185 number which is actually longer than 18185 (an 0808.... number) because I'm not BT calls. then when the automated service comes on and tells me 8p/min I then have to dial hubby's full number and # and hey presto... Sorted!

There are other web sites that do cheap calls to Turkey I think one is called Planet.

Happy chatting!

I'm also with O2 pay and go and paid for the international bolt on - it was £5, a one off payment with no expiry, which means I can text a Turkish mobile while I'm in the UK for just 10p per text - it was well worth it (check the internationall caller section on the o2 website for details).

There is no charge to the recipient if you are calling a Turkish mobile while you are in the UK.

Your Turkish friend will only be charged to receive a calls if you call using your UK mobile whilst you are in Turkey. Don't think they are charged for a text sent while you are in Turkey.

I find it works out cheaper to call Turkey from the UK on a mobile or land line using a Post Office international phone card. You can buy them in denominations of £5, £10, £15 etc, think the current call rate to a Turkish mobile is 16p a minute a little less to a landline. They sometimes have special weekends where you can call various countries free of charge - information is on the Post Office website.

Also (bizarrely) I've discovered with O2 it's chepaer to use MMS for texting the UK - MMS is only 25p, standard texts are double! And of course you can add a photo to a MMS to make all your friends at work jealous!!

Hope that helps!

If I need to call another country when I am out of the office I use Skype

I have Skype enabled on my mobile phone and I think it is 3p per minute to call abroad

John
I have Skype on my phone as well, doesn't that incur network charges also, I also have unlimited internet but I don't think that works in Turkey

Hi

I am with o2 pay and go and get 300 texts free a month, also when there I use mms to send texts home as it is free.

Also you can send these free from the UK to a Turkey mobile too :)

I'm on O2 simplicity (£20 per month) and it costs me 10p per text to my boyfriend and 28p per minute per phone call - mobile to mobile. I've got a £3 per month bolt-on for 'Distant Country' which is Turkey, obviously. :)

He's never had to pay to receive either a text or a call from my mobile to his.

hiya scotdot
all you have to do is phone up your network provider ie vodafone, o2, orange, 3 or whatever you are on
and ask them how much it will cost to unlock your phone
some of them charge for the service
i know vodafone dont but 3 do
they will send you an unlocking code either to your email address or by text to your phone
all you have to do is follow the instructions and then it should be unlocked
ready for you to buy a turkish sim when your in icmeler and it should work
hope that helps

Good Evening Paul Thanks for emailing us about using your Samsung F400 in Turkey. Paul, I'm glad to tell you that full International Roaming service is already activated on your account. This means your service will work the same way as it does in the UK. As soon as you land at your destination you'll receive a text message from O2 to let you know what services you can access. Your tariff includes 1200 text messages allowances. You'll also be glad to know that you can use your inclusive text allowance to send text messages from abroad. One text messages sent from abroad will decrement 4 text messages from your inclusive allowance. Once your free allowance of text messages is over, you'll be charged 30p per message for sending text messages from Turkey. Just to let you know Voicemail 901 is generally set up to divert calls when you're busy on the phone, out of range, or when your phone is switched off. In the UK these diverts are free of charge. However, when you're abroad, and an incoming call isn't answered, the foreign network sets up another call to the UK. This is the additional Voicemail 901 call charge on your bill. If you want to avoid such charges while in roaming, we would recommend you to switch off voicemail and you won't be charged. You can use the O2 Call Alert service free of charge while abroad to get notifications about the calls you missed. To activate this service, simply dial 1710 free of charge from your phone before going abroad. To switch off voicemail service, please dial 1760 from your phone before going abroad. I hope I've resolved your query to your satisfaction.

Hi I ring Turkey a couple of times a week and often use either a banana card or a black card - you can buy them from most offices/corner shops. I find they are cheaper than the post office international cards! I think you get longer for you £5 than you do on the banana card & quite often you get they do a deal - buy one, get one free!

YOu also get longer if you rihng from a house phone than a mobile, and if you are using a mobile it will use up your minutes.

Does anyone have any knowledge of texting or phoning a mobile when we are BOTH in Turkey? Just thinking ahead because we have a big group of us going so would be useful to know about charges to text/call eachother.

Hi loveleejublee

Yes... don't call as it'll cost you BOTH a fortune - use texts.

Texts will be charged at whatever it would cost you to text home (normally about 50p ish), but if you use the multi media messaging the text is sometimes cheaper (half the price on O2!) and you're not charged to receive texts.

Also worth mentioning that if any of your Turkish friends plan on calling you while you're in turkey they will be charged the same as if they were calling you in the UK and you'll also be charged if you answer your phone.
I quite often have this problem as they seem to think that as you're in Turkey it'll be cheaper for them to call you than to text you - wrong!

Hi my daughter phones Turkey most days, we were given a number to call before you enter the Turkish mob no it is 08717729595.... You phone that no first then they ask you to enter the number you are ringing.. It is 7p a min... so it does save a bit, My daughter is going to Icmeler for a while and she has been told to un-lock her phone and buy a Turkish sim card too...
