I have my cases on the spare bed about a month before I go, open but not packed. I start dropping in small items that I don't want to forget and then a few days before we go, I iron everything and hang them around the house. I put them in the case and close & lock it the day before we fly. We usually fly at 7.30am.
Just talking about it is so exciting, I must be seriously sad :?

Can I give you a tip. Don't have one suitcase for you and another for your OH. One of our suitcases got lost at Dalaman last year, and of course they were all my clothes! (disaster) Make sure you mix your clothes, half yours in his and half his in yours. The worse thing was that my suitcase contained all my tablets. However, it did turn up the following day, and was brought to our Apartment. Mixing is something I will make sure I do from now on. Just a thought!

I've literally just finished packing mine for Monday...4 more sleeps!
Mostly because I always pack too much, so I like to know how overweight my suitcase is before I remove some of the things I don't "need" as much as others. I've gotta lose 0.9kg this time :?

Usually get the suitcases out about 4/5 weeks before we go as need to see whats in there from last year. I wash and dry swimwear and daytime wear when I come from holiday and pack it back in the suitcases, also put in things like flip flops, travel iron, kettle etc. I often get a surprise at just how much there is in there, then I have an elimination of whats going this year and whats not because I've usually bought too much new stuff. Start ironing about 2/3 weeks before and leave hanging up in spare room, but start filling the suitcases with anything I can thing of at the time.

Thats a good tip Helen. But I think I might have one & a half cases for me though, and I'll scatter Joe's half a case among 2 if you know what I mean :? I've confused myself now!!!

Helen

I always pack my tablets in my hand luggage for that reason, I take a copy of my perscription incase they ask what they are and but also take them in there original boxes as well

I usually start some packing about a month before, then I have coathangers all with the stuff ready to be packed last minute. I get so excited at the thought of opening the cases up and putting them on the bed in the spare room - love it.

I go next Friday, and all I've done so far is check if I have more than 6 months left on my passport!

Realistically, I think I'll start on Wednesday, and have it finished by Thursday night :)

I go in 3 weeks and have most things either in suitcase or lying on top of it as I like to make sure I have everything and will be splitting the clothes etc between mine and mum's suitcase as we normally do incase of any lost luggage! This means I know how much it weighs and how much to remove or transfer to hand luggage. Will not be stung this year with charges for my case.

yes Helen I agree with you about mixing items in your cases as we go with our 2 boys I always always make sure in each case there is suncream, flipflops ,swimwear and various going out gear for each of us I have always done it this way, someone took my case at the airport by mistake about 20 years ago when I was very young and slim  got it back before we left but turned out it was a very old man I think the shock would have killed him if he had got to his hotel and opened the case to find my skimpy bikinis and undies  so be warned remember to mix your cases

I usually wash all my swimwear, beach towel etc when I get back and pack it back in my case, which is kept under my bed. So when I buy anything new for holiday I just put it straight in the case – that way I don’t forget anything!! Then about 3/4 weeks before my holiday I sort through what I have and start deciding what I will definitely be taking and what I will be leaving. Then I iron everything that needs ironed the day before I go. Getting excited just thinking about it!!

Have had the cases out for the past coulple of weeks and keep putting things in that I might forget. Next week I will start properly and will start packing the things that will not crease and cross them off the list and also start hanging clothes around the doors so I can decide what to take, these will be packed two or three days before we go. I always split the suitcases so that if one gets lost we both have some clothes and always carry my tablets in my hand luggage. One of our party lost their suitcase a couple of years ago with their tablets in and we had an awful job to replace them.
