How long left on passport???

Postby kingtut » 02 Apr 2009 02:44

Hi all.

First time posting on the site, so forgive me for diving in with a query straight off, but.....

How long do you have to have left on your passport to travel to Turkey?

The reason i ask is ours is valid till Oct 09, and we are travelling in May. I've heard some say it's 6 months, others 3 months, and on the Go Turkey website it states (not totally clear however) that it's 3 months.

Just dont want to get there for them to say ....... NO!! :?

Thanks all

Im not sure if its 3 months or 6 months, but even if you change your passport now, you dont lose out on the remaining months.

I changed my passport in July 07, but it didnt run out until Sept 07, when my new passport came back it is valid until Sept 17, so to be on the safe side, I would change it now and it will be valid until Oct 2019.

Welcome to the ICR site.

Yes, I know where you are coming from.

I am sure there will be plenty of people around in the daytime who will know for sure, I am only around now as I am finishing a nightshift.

Passport valid for at least six months from date of arrival in Turkey required by all, except the following nationals:
1. Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland, who can enter with a national ID card (which must have a validity of one year).

We have to renew ours after our May holiday so that we can travel again in August, ours expire in January 10.

As others have said you get the months back upto a maximum of 9, so if you renew your passport when there are 7 months left your new passport will be for 10 years 7 months.

Now here is the money saver, passport cost always increases in October if there is a rise, so applying early may save you a few quid. There hasn't been an increase since October 2007 so I would imagine there is one due.

In 2005 the cost was £42, it's now £72 a 66% rise in 3 years, In 1995 it was only £18.
