Icmeler Local Elections

Postby dksbbs » 03 Mar 2009 18:43

My understanding is that Icmeler's local elections are being held on the 29th of this month.

The former mayor Zeki Eren is standing again (he lost at the last election), I believe he was in power for about 20 years and basically nurtured Icmeler to the place we have all grown to love.

Talking to our Turkish friends over the last couple of years they believe that the new admistration has made things worse for them and that they wish Zeki was back in power, if they are correct I hope he wins so Icmeler maintains it's special charm

It would be interesting to hear what his manifesto is, I wonder if he is planning on turning time back to the good old days prior to the music curfew.

  talking to our turkish friends the present mayor had a deal going with the taxi,s that he would stop the dolly trains, these were great for seeing all of icemelers changes. when due to 1 accident he had the chance to do away with the trains he stopped them. also majority of turkish people have no problems with late music it is only when some bars had the music full blast at 1am etc the complaints started.
personally last year was ideal when the music was turned down you could still sit and enjoy the beloved effes as long as you wanted

Zeki Eren did many good to Icmeler esspecially with the infrastructure works however, it was him who started the 12 o'clock music curfew however he had long time plans to develop a bar street where the music could be played all night long however he lost last elections therefoe we could not see this happening.
At this moment, no matter who comes in power, we can not see this bar street project going through since there is no space left in icmeler to go ahead with it unless they plan to have it up in the mountains...

There are a few cats living at the apartments he owns and all the guests feed them with milk etc.
