Hi LynneJenny
No doubt the first arrivals will give us an update and I belive Donna is there now so she might know something about this over the next few days.
But from what Ive heard off a few buisness people, the rents are ridiculous, and no one was taking the chance of going bump.
Also, and its my personal opinion, I cant see a buisness being successfull over there, I do know people wander over there, but I dont think there will be enough passers-by to look in a shop or cafe when there are already hundreds of them in the town
Might be wrong but if I were in buisness I would want to be in the middle of things and not out there, because as holiday folk we are there to have a lazy time and not go hikeing to shop, and yes I do know people have a walk in the evening but, how many ?, and its too hot dureing the day.

Maybe there are some members on the forum who have retail experiance and could offer their thoughts on a venture like this.
This has been mentioned on previous topics in the past, indeed I posted about this last year at the back end of July, "Concrete eyesore or what" topic, and it brought some interesting comments, in regard to my theory, which I still think is a possability
The new jetty plus strange shopping area to me equals the arrival of cruiseboats in the near future, these shops would then be the first to catch the boatpeople who might not want to wander too far into town, these folk, along with us lot who do go over there, together might keep the shops going, but just Icmelerites on their own I dont think so.
I hope Im wrong re the cruiseboats though

Hi

after talking to some of our Turkish friends they are saying that some of the daily boat/fishing trips will be leaving from the new jetty instead of Marmaris so at best I would think most of their trade will be passing trade also like Peli says no doubt the curise liners will soon be making a call
the other trade they might pick up are people going to see the Stella show who fancy some where diffrent for their meal before taking in the show only time will tell if they can make ago of it

I had a good look at these shops last year but they look to be small box units. I could not see any that might become a restaurant they are too small. I suppose if someone took a few together it might work but I can't see anything else but shops. A pity, it would have been a lovely spot to sit and eat but there are so many good eating places in Icmeler.

I heard the same re rents being extortionate
re cruise ships though, is the water deep enough to accomodate them?

It seems just a waste to have them sitting empty - it's a lovely spot and I'm sure they could be put to better use. Would it not make more sense to lower the rates and get people into them? After all, they're not making any money just sitting there empty.

Hi Fanny
The water out there is deeper than most of the English channel, so that wont be a problem. The only problem that I can see is the length of the jetty with it having a bend in the middle, that might limit the size of anything tying up there.
Trouble is though, every one that you ask dont seem to know whats going on, between the lot of us on here, we must have asked threequarters of the population of Icmeler about this.
