When does the season really start this year?

Postby helen2904 » 01 Mar 2009 15:04

Friends of ours are going out in four weeks and are wondering if all the bars and shops will be open. (They are staying All inclusive). We never go this time of year so I don't really know what to tell them. Can anyone help?

Hi Helen
Depends so much on what they want for their holiday !
Nearly every place is still closed the beach will still be a shambles, its great in its own way, but it wont be a sun and sand holiday as in the normal way.
No doubt others will let you know what is open, but its very little, apart from the ex-pat type and locals places.

Thanks Peli.

I had a feeling it would be quiet for them. They have been a few times before but during August. I cannot name the hotel but they are staying on the road between Marmaris and Icmeler. I think they might be in for a bit of a shock, maybe they should stay indoors for the 7 days!

The resort will be alot quieter than when they normally go August, but if there going in 4 weeks there will be quite a few places open, ive spoken to some friends in restuarants and bars and they mainly opening for the 1st April.

As for the beach being a shambles, January it was lovely and clear and the boats were moored up at the far end from the canal down, also beginning of april beach is combed and the larger hotels are starting to put out the sunbeds for everyone arriving for the easter period.

Its a lovely time to see everything comming to life ready for a new season ahead.

Sorry Shaz
Mybe shambles was the wrong word, sorry, but Ive seen it when the sand has been buldozed up into big piles to stop it washing away, indeed where it has washed away its has been bedrock, also not a sunbed to be seen in Feb an March, they must be getting things ready earlier then
As you say and also I it is a great time to be out there, it goes back to what your individual tastes are.

I was there last April and it was lovely, we are going back this April too! It is very different to August, however different in a good way! The beach didnt have sunbeds out but the beach was combed and you could still walk along the it (in fact we had no choice to walk along it because the new promenade was getting built). There was still a fair few places open, we ate at the majestic on the canal a few nights and even though it was a quiet it was still open. The weather during the day was nice enough to sunbathe in, the pools were still freezing cold though! On a night time it was a bit breezy but not too cold. The thing that we noticed was how colourful and vibrant everywhere looked-flowers all over in full bloom and the grass was really green-when we go in August everything is burnt off!

I've been to icmeler a few times in April and it's been lovely. The weather has been good during the day but a little chilly at night. The best thing for me is the atmosphere - it seems like icmeler is waking up after its hibernation for the winter! The flowers and trees are all very vibrant and there is a real buzz of anticipation for the coming season.

Thank you all for your views. At least I will have something to tell them when they get in touch. (really, I'm only jealous that she's going and I have to wait till August)
