Saving on ink too - not to mention buying stamps, writer's cramp, etc etc - I might just do that, Donna!

Every year in the community centre where I work, we each buy one card to hang in the centre and put a couple of pounds in a box.
We usually manage to give £100 donation to our local hospice each year.
It also helps the pensioners because Christmas cards are a pain when you are getting older, remembering who you've sent them to and then walking about in the bad weather delivering them.

We are having a Christmas Fayre next week with different stalls, carol singing and turkey & stuffing barms ,hot soup and a roll , the proceeds from this event are being split between, once again our local hospice, but also the other half is going to the elderly people & children of Chernobyl.

Christmas is about excess and waste, and cards are the most excessive waste of all.

Come on Skilly.. Us users of simmer framess keep a list and the only way we keep on top oif which of our friends have dropped of the perch is when we don't get a Xmas card from them. To a lot of people a card is big part of Xmas and keeping in touch.

Silverfox ,all I can say is that were I live we are not so isolated that we don't know if each other has dropped off the perch ( I am not far off being a pensioner ). People still send cards to friends who live far away etc but we are a small close knit community who see each other almost every day. I suppose we are lucky.

I have done this job for 28 years and only today people have been saying that they feel so proud when we hand over the donation in lieu of Xmas cards to the hospice who do such admirable work and I think that is a brilliant thing to do for each other over Christmas... its an acheivement

Sorry not having ago about the donations. It was only in answer to the paragraph about pensioners not remembering and said very much tongue in cheek.. Seriously admire the work you and thousand of others do and long may it continue.
