Icmeler to Datca

Postby madmackem » 05 Nov 2008 20:35

Hi all Mads OH here, would just like to ask the advice of our experts (you lot) as to how far it is to Datca from Icmeler, and can you get a Dolmus there.

Check out the above link of pics of Datca.

This is a little review of Datca I did a couple of years ago
DATCA.

One of the nicest places I have had the fortune to visit.

Leaving Icmeler and heading towards the Bozburun Peninsular it took one and an half hours through winding roads and picturesque villages, driving over a mountain range where to to one side was the Bay of Marmaris and to the other the Bay of Bodrum.
Onward we travelled till we came across DATCA.
A true Turkish town whos market meandered through the quaint streets and not one bit of hassle.
Tree lined promenades with bars and restaurents suiting all tastes.

Boasting two beaches,an harbour and first class country park.
DATCA is most certainly a place I intend to make a repeat visit.

I hired a jeep this year and drove to Datca, I thought it was a beautiful place, and a few hours there wasn't enough for me

We've visited Datca on a few occasions. The first time we were a group of 13 and we hired jeeps. The journey was good and there were some excellent views on the way. We called into a small local bar for breakfast and overwhelmed the owner with so many tourists arriving at once! Needless to say our orders were served with traditional Turkish hospitality. We visited the market there on a Saturday and found there were plenty of bargains to be had. On another occasion a smaller group of us went and enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the town before enjoying a delicious lunch in one of the restaurants overlooking the harbour. I'd certainly recommend a visit and look forward to going there again next year during my May holiday in Icmeler.

Thanks for the info everyone, I knew I could depend on you all to keep us right. We will definatly be going, I met a woman on the phone through my job, that lives in Datca so it will be nice to be able to meet her and her husband in person. Isn't it strange the way you meet and become friends, we regularly e mail one another and all through a chance phone call.

Love Elaine

Hi All
Ages ago, when I used to do a lot of driving about, we went to Datca on a couple of occasions that was when it was the old road and it took you nearly 2 hours to get there, but it was a great experiance and wonderfull scenery
I remember there was a great little beach and bar/restruant along side a small stream that came from a dammed up yellow coloured lake about 30yrds away, full of small fish that you could feed whilst sitting and having a drink, they had about a dozen free sunbeds and you just drove onto the little beach and parked up.
I wonder if any one else knows where it is and if they can explain more fully, becouse as far as I can remember, it was to the right of the town behind some reed beds and a lake, it was definatly on the oposite shore side to where the school and main beach is.
The main reason I am mentioning this place is the stream, it is man made originating from the dammed up lake and exiting from a hole about 18 inch square, about 4or5 feet high. This all set-up is very old, dating back to probably when, Adam was a lad. This water is full of minerals and supposed to be very good for you, It is the done thing to stand under this strong flowing outlet and let it massage and pummle you, it actualy nearly knocks you to the floor with the power but its the most wonderfull feeling Ive ever had, that is, after pulling your shorts back up, which the strong flow whips down, revealing your all and saundry, , to the other watching visitors. You can also swim in the lake it is like a hot mineral bath, and the locals say it cures everything going, especialy skin complaints.
This is a truly wonderfull place to visit ,not just for the above experiance but also when you have a nose about you realise that it is indeed a very historic place with ancient baths and ruins alongside the dam which has made this lake, from the mineral springs amongst the reed beds
I hope any future visiters to Datca can find it, I myself will one day go back there and hopefully find that it is still as we experianced it
