WARNING & ADVICE??!!!!!

Just back from a wonderful 2 wks in Icmeler. My daughter bought a ring last year from one of the jewellers and asked me to take it with me to get it cleaned. As per usual after going back to the same jewellers we brought it from . They were so polite and offered to clean her ring and also the one that my husband had bought me 2 years previous in Icmeler. I left both rings and a chain in good faith and have to say was delighted when I checked my daughters ring. Trusting mine would be the same on arriving home having checked it I feel most 100% they have removed the diamonds that were in my one & replaced them with a cheaper quailty of diamonds. I really cannot belive this and would lay my life on this. I got the same ring cleaned last year and know for a fact this time the ring is not the same. I would advise anyone thinking of having this done while there to think twice before handing their jewellery over. I am not tying to decry any of the wonderful people in Icmeler as we have been going there for the last 8 years and have made many friends (he who I thought was one of them) but really wanted to point this out as a warning. Also if he is still there next year we will definitely be going back to complain although I know we dont have a leg to stand on.

if u think u have been jipped take it to a uk jeweler have it valued for insurance purposes and ask them the quality of the diamonds they will give u a honest answer it does not cost much and will put your mind at rest

Thanks Jack@69 will do that. I am just absolutely gutted as it was an anniversary present. The maddening thing is they have not even put 3 same diamonds back in. The only reason I went to this particular jeweller was to get my daughters ring cleaned which she had bought from him last year. I just feel it is totally dispicable they can do this to people,

This is a very underhand act to carry out.He doesn't deserve any more custom at all.Maybe you should name and shame him.He's let himself and Icmeler down badly!

I will Colin although I dont know if that would be okay to do that. I am going to get an up to date valuation on the ring now but just feel totally sickened by the whole thing. How anyone can do that to somebody when you have put your trust in them. I did think it was a bit strange when I handed it in to him at 10.30am and he told me to come back at 8 in the evening. Obviously time for him to do what he has done. It really was quite an expensive ring originally but felt it was worth it and one for me to treasure of all our happy times in Icmeler.

OMG the times I have left my jewellery to be cleaned, and gone back the next night to pick it up!!! Never again. I would be interested to hear what happens when you get it valued. If you have been conned, I also think you should name and shame.

really hope your mistaken Carol and that the ring just looks different after it's been cleaned??
if it turns out that the stones have been switched, that's such a shame

just out of interest, when they write out the certificates for diamond rings, do they detail the quality of the stone in the ring or just the weight of the ring and size of the stones? we've only ever bought chains/bracelets etc

No Fanny they write down the quaity of the diamonds as well. When we bought the ring he showed us the different qualities of the diamonds and offered to put a cheaper one in as it was quite expensive but you could just tell the quality was perfect and we decided just to go for the dearer one. I am afraid to say I am definitely not mistaken that they have been swapped. I got the same ring cleaned last year in the jewellers opposite this one and had no problem but I could tell right away when I got it home they were not the original diamonds. I just so wish I had checked it properly when I collected it but in their lights it just looked the same and I decided to just leave it in the bag he put it in till I got home. Just wanted to warn people as I really never in a million years thought they would do this or should I say this person would do this.

After reading the posts about the dodgy jeweller, I feel I have to tell you my story.

A friend of mine died of cancer and left me a beautiful blue stone. I had no idea what this stone was, so I took it to a Jeweller here in Wales just for clarification as to what kind of a stone it was. He confirmed that it was a very rare Ceylon Saphire, and that I should hang on to it. However, a couple of years down the line I decided that I would like to have it made into a ring, and decided to take it with me to Icmeler. We had bought a few things from a particular Jeweller the previous year and trusted him 100%, so asked him if he could make a ring with my blue stone. Of course his reply was "no problem", call for it in two days. I explained exactly how I wanted it and he took it all on board.

I returned two days later, all excited about seeing my beautiful blue stone transformed into a ring. I got the biggest shock of my life. I actually screamed in the shop, my husband was stood outside and he came running in. The ring appeared. I was horrified, it was not my blue stone. He had realised that it was a very rare stone and taken, replacing it with a very poor quality blue saphire. I must admit I shouted hysterically at him, and he was adamant it was my stone, but I could have recognised that blue stone anywhere, as it was very special. I told him I would call my Turkish friend on his mobile to come and sort out the problem. He was suddenly in a panic, and returned to his workshop in a hell of a temper. He returned having ripped out the blue saphire and stuck my blue stone in the empty claws. I paid him for the ring, and told him that I would never return to his shop again.

To this day I have not worn the ring, as he made such a bad job of putting my stone back, that I am afraid to wear it just in case the stone drops out. He was definitely trying to make a fool out of me, but fortunately he did not succeed. I vowed that I would never ever set foot in his shop again. We returned the following year and his shop was no more, but he was then trading as an Estate Agent! I hate him, and I hope I never set eyes on him again. (Sorry for being so cross, but that little blue stone was a symbol of the friendship I had with my dear friend )

thanks for the warning though
even though you've not named the jewellers responsible, it's certainly put me off having some family heirlooms (only gold) made into a special piece

was going to take them to Icmeler next year, but as some are 24 carat I won't take the chance now
will stick to using a local goldsmith in the UK

Helen & admin I know exactly how you's must have felt. I just cannot understand how anyone could do this to you when you put your trust in them & Fanny I would hand it in over here to be cleaned to be on the safe side. My husband is taking my ring to the jewellers today so hopefully we will find out soon and I really hope I will be proved wrong. I also feel it is such a shame for all the genuine jewellers in Icmeler which I am sure there are more of them than the small minority of the crooks.

my items are only bracelets and rings, the bracelets are 24 ct and I can't get clasps for them as the gold is so soft, the rings are much too small - hence me thinking of taking them to Icmeler to get something really nice designed

given the memories that go with them, there's no way I'll be taking them to Icmeler now

you guys must be gutted esp given the sentimental value, not to mention the broken trust etc

Sorry to hear about this Carol. What was the outcome of Brian taking it to the Jewellers. Are you able to claim on your insurance? Really puts a damper on a great holiday.
