Stomach Bug in Icmeler

Postby clarels » 04 Oct 2008 16:35

Just a warning for anyone going to Icmeler this month. I returned just over a week ago and suffered a really bad stomach bug at the end of the holiday which I have only just recovered from now. I travelled with 3 other people and all of us had the same bug. Many other people in the resort whilst we were there had also been ill with the same bug.

I have just spoken to another friend that got back on Thursday and they ended up in hospital on a drip as they were so bad and they said that many people in the resort were ill also.

:(

Take some decent diarrhea tablets with you as they cost £20 from the chemist in resort.

Severe vomiting and diarrhea for 48 hrs together with laying in bed shivering covered in blankets with 30oC heat outside not the result of one to many efes.

We were there beginning of september and icmeler had quite a large problem with some bug or other a lot of the locals had it so not down to change of diet etc .Some locals said it was maybe a problem with the water even though the locals don't drink it perhaps it is secondary - washing up etc .

it was also where we stayed, a few people had it.

on the day we were coming home, a chappy at the aprtments was quite ill, with sickness and stomach pains, so he got some anti sickness pills, and then travelled to dalaman and went on the plane...same plane as me.....i felt so sorry for him, as he was in a lot of discomfort, but then i now wonder, how many caught the virus off the plane.....?

angiem, did the doc say what it was, as if you needed antibiotics, it couldnt just be a normal virus of d &v

icmeler stomach bug

Postby angiem » 05 Oct 2008 07:06

managed to get to pharmacist eventually..... just told her the symptoms severe stomach pains and really bad d/v , she gave me two box antibiotics two box tablets to stop d and told me to share the box of anti spasam pills, we are always carefull what we eat and drink whenever we are abroad but this bug wiped us out totally, thankfully the tablets worked and we were able to leave the pool area [ closest to the loo ] and enjoy the last few days on the beach , but even now back home as late as yesterday i was still getting the cramps

Hi Angie,
Hope you and hubby are feelin better soon.
As you know i had a bad time with this bug as well.I had to go see my GP when i got home and he said it was Gastroenteritis (spelling?) which he said was caused buy the food not being washed/cooked properly.
Not only did i have this but i was told that the very annoying cough i had was croup and i am having problems with my asthma because of it. Again my dr thinks i picked this up whilst flying but i have other ideas on that matter!.

Theresa

PS hope everyone feels better soon.x

I was ill for 5 days in June and put it down to being a traitor going over to Rhodes and eating a Gyros

Wasn't sick but was taking immodium like they were going out of fashion. I got so bad I ended up going to the pharmacy told the guy my symptoms and he handed me 2 packets of pills, one for the bacteria and one to stop the diarrhoea and within 2 hours I was right as rain and stomach back to normal.

I'll be taking the left over pills with us next week just to be on the safe side.

we are still not rite but at least everything is not comming out before we have finished eating it,,, so we seem to be improving.. i cant blame all inclusive, we were self catering, i really dont think it came from the food we ate we dont go over the top and never eat chicken, guess we were just lucky

Best wishes to all who have suffered and are still suffering. We have a really bad cold bug at the minute travelling at a rapid rate of knots round West Yorkshire. Still got chest infection after 2 weeks so suppose it's the luck of the draw wherever you are. To be honest would prefer a bad cold to a stomach bug

aw, bless you to anyone who's been unfortunate enough to get whatever it is

me and OH had same thing last August, and for several weeks after - the cramps and upset were soooooo bad, I really didn't think I'd ever be able to eat normally again
Immodium had no effect whatsoever and thank god the kids managed to escape it
it took a good few weeks to get over, so just try and bear with it guys - you'll be ok once you're able to shake it off

I came back on Sunday and stayed in a hotel that was AI and was hit quite bad with this bug.

What people seem to think and didnt care how loud they shouted it was that it was food poisoning from our hotel. I tried telling several people that it was just a bug and other places had been hit with it but they wouldnt listen, they thought they was right!

I was fine, I brushed my teeth with the tap water, had ice in my drinks, ate the hotel food and other food, swam a hell of a lot.. A few in our group did catch it but my brother starved himself for 24 hours and had flat coke and he was fine after that.

A lot of people in our hotel was having to go to the clinic for help but then they was seen heading for the food and bar soon as they was back on the complex, so to be honest I had no sympathy for them.

Other than that I had a fab holiday just a shame there was so many whinging sods on the complex!!

I along with most of us have no idea how these bugs !! start or spread.
But one thing Ive always been wary of is the "plank steak",I feel that no matter how clean a kitchen is I dont think a piece of wood can be washed enough to get rid of all the germs etc that must be in the thousands of cuts and scratches on it , and this is in no way slagging the resturants off.
Its just a thought!, and I wonder if anyone can trace their illness back to it .Also is there anyone in the medical/hygene proffesion who can shed more light on this.

I was fine, while we were away however my mum had some sort of stomach bug whilst we were there, and so after a day she went to the chemist who gave her a white powder drink (which she has had previously) and within a couple of hours she felt a lot better, she did have to go back to the chemist a few days later for another one of these drinks but she said they are worth the 3 lira (I think that's what she paid).

But it's not just there that this stomach bug is causing havoc, someone my mum works with has ended up in hospital here with the same thing on a drip she is doing ok but just goes to show that it happens everywhere not just Icmeler. And we are counting the days till we return.

Andrea

PS Hope everyone who had it while away is feeling a lot better now :)

we did wonder whether me and OH reacted badly to either UK water or milk on our return

the pains i had - not to mention the upset stomach - were as bad as labour pains and as i'm a mum of 4, beleive me they were bad

we'd eaten/drank in the same places as the kids, but they were unaffected

OH and I do drink LOTS of tea, and as we were only too glad to catch up once we got home (to the tune of about 20 brews a day), that's what we put it down to

nightmare while it lasted, but thank god it eventually passed
