Undecided on what to do next year, have always been self catering in the past, but next year we don't now whether to go to the hotel marti. We could book the hotel for two weeks in june/july for £630 per person. We had a meal there last june and the food was superb, whereas we were a little dissapointed with the food in the restaurants in august. Also with the pound beeing so poor against the lira we found eating out quite expensive.

We just got back last week and we were on the beach and there were loads of people with AI wristbands on.
They were saying that the food in their hotel was uneatable. My sister went AI last year and she ate out every night because she did not like the food.

Saying that, it sounds as if the Marti is ok if you have had a meal there.
Personally I think that the increase in AI hotels is killing the small restaurants in Icmeler and that is a pity .

Believe me the food was superb, so much so that it even surprised me.
So much choice and all cooked fresh.

I know someone that has stayed at the Marti and she said it was great, as you can eat in so many different restraunts all in the same complex.

We tried to have a look, but got chased by a security guard and told to get out

Probably because of those dodgy sun-glasses

If I had young children, I would definitely consider AI, as we did many years ago, but now its just me and Phill, I love the decisions of where to eat each night and the variety.

Our friends and ourselves have stayed at the Marti Resort (not to be confused wirh Marti Perla) up to 2006 since 1998 and cannot recomend it enough. However! since 2006 we have gone self catering because we were always enviouse of the choices in the various retaurants/bars etc,not to mention the fun.
In our position the savings we have made considering Martis costs are quite a lot. As to AI, again you miss so much going on in the resort as you must feel, to get value for money, you must stay in the hotel.
But in the end the choice is yours.

I would give the AI a go. We have just returned and had a reckon up on how much we have spent. We booked are own flights, transfers and accomadation which was self catering.
The flights for 5 people were £1850
transfers 40
Accom with A/C 360
Spending ie food drink 3100
Total £5350

I dont mind really, because i enjoy eating and drinking in the resort, but at over £1000 per person, it may be food for thought!!

We've stayed at the Marti about 8 times in the last six years, but more and more it has just been for the pools (our 6 year-old daughter loves them). The food in the "normal" restaurant (as opposed to La Grotta) used to be pretty good but now is just OK or worse. But it's the service (or lack of it) that really annoys us.

Also, as other people have said, we really want to spend more time at other restaurants (in our case Venice and Villa Kontes especially, though we'd love to try out some more).

So next year we're definitely thinking of going S/C or B&B somehwere. Any recommendations? Priorities are cleanliness, reasonable pool (preferably child-friendly, though the Marti ones aren't so no great loss) and not too far from the centre (upto 15 mins at strolling pace). Also we're only 2 adults and a child, so I guess that means a studio.

S/C everytime , going out and deciding where to eat/trying new restuarants/visting old friends is one of my favourite bits of the holiday.

I have never ever had a bad meal in Icmeler, infact food is always fantastic! Friends (in the square), dreamboys and champange are my favourite.

Plus the restuarants need our business to stay open!! x

for me it has to be self catering in turkey........the whole idea of the holiday for me, is getting out and about, eating in different places, and meeting new people.

i know i can get a cheaper deal on AI now, but for me the holiday would be spoilt, i just couldnt be tied to one place........especially if it was occupied by brits trying to get "there moneys worth"

we also saw lots of wrist bands, and spoke to some people who were staying AI, and they hated it, the food was unedible, and the hotel staff didnt want to know........

Have only done AI Once and that was in Spain the food was not brilliant but what hit me was the number of people at the bar when we went out in the morning and were still there when we went out at night and drinks were not dear in the resort not like today,I still can't see why the prices have rocketed in Turkey it makes no sense we have just spent a week on the Costa del Sol and the prices were on par with Turkey and in some instances cheaper why,you can get a flight to Spain for less than half the price of one to Turkey and then pay prices that are similar or less logic tells you what is going to happen if people are looking for a cheap holiday.
