One Thing I Hated In Icmeler

Postby Erik The Viking » 07 Sep 2008 20:17

One thing blighted our holiday this year, and you dont realise how bad it is until your there and you dont realise how much you appreciate it at home.....

The smoking ban!

Filthy rotten smoke ruining mealtimes most nights.

YUK!....sorry smokers but its true!

Some of us smokers Erik will still 'go outside' even in Turkey. We did not smoke in the apartment either and not just because we have small children, out of consideration for others. I don't want my own home to smell like an ashtray so don't smoke indoors here either. Some of us are considerate and even as a smoker I cannot stand other people's smoke

Kimlew I know and they bug me as a smoker! I can't stand in if anyone smokes near kids, I am an adult and make my choices which I would not dream of inflicting on others  Except when i get drunk, loud but inoffensive

I was a very heavy smoker and am so thankful that I eventually managed to stop nearly 5 years ago. however this year we were with 3 people who smoked rather heavily and I came home with a bad cough! I think because you can still smoke in bars etc in Icmeler that people who do smoke tend to smoke more because it's like a treat for them. The smoking ban has been in Scotland a wee bit longer than in other parts of the UK and I have to say I love it. However I feel really sorry for people who have the odd ciggie now and again, you'd think they caused the famine in Africa. Give them a break :(

Aye you're right. Being an ex smoker I tend to be more sympathetic as I know how horrible it is to be addicted. Of course you know what's going to happen now - people who have the odd ciggie will come on and condem me for saying it's an addiction! Canny win ! Anyway sorry we didn't meet up this year, I watched out for you and your wife and son. Maybe next time ?

Funny thing happened on our last night in harrys bar. A man on the next table [by the road] got up, went outside and had a cigarrette on the other side of the glass partition, very considerate, but totally pointless.

Just to let you know the ban is also on its way to Icmeler. We were talking to our Turkish friend three weeks ago, and he told us that it was coming either in 2009 or 2010.

From a few things I've read it looks like July 09 is when the full ban will come into place, it is already in place such as the airport, malls etc.

Most countries in Europe have brought in a smoking ban but because of the loss of revenue have discarded it in favor of smoking and non smoking establishments only the UK has brought in the smoking ban totally and it may seem a good thing in the cities but in the Towns and villages bars and restaurants are closing all the time.

I agree but try telling non smokers that there used to be a thing called human rights but that doesn't include smokers they are more or less lepers now, they have just done a study in the U.S. they have proved there is no such thing as passive smoking the only person that is harmed by smoking is the smoker, but this as been very little publicised, people just believe what the media leads them to believe and as usual people are easily manipulated.

I had managed to give up smoking for my June holiday (stupid me has started again) but there was only one occassion when smoking disturbed our meal, that was in the Love Boat, where a young couple sat by the door, and as soon as our meal was delivered they lit up. I would never ever light up when someone is eating.

It was worse when we went to Nottingham for a weekend to see my Son, the inconsiderate Cigar smoker who just didnt give a darn where his smoke went. That was sitting outside in a beer garden!

I got told by one of the waitors in Icmeler, can't remember which resteraunt, that there was some kind of smoking ban but not many people take much notice of it.

Don't know if it's true.
