I dont know how much has been said already but my dad just rang me to say had I heard about it? It happened near Dalyan the driver lost control when he got squirted in the eyes with water and hit a tractor. A man and his 8 year old daughter died. There wer some injuries too, including members of the same family. How awful :( , we did the jeep safari this year and I must admit the driver did get into difficulties when some smart alec thought it would be a good idea to fill his water gun with sea water and squirt him. Our driver had to stop and flush his eyes out at the next stop. I am wondering if the Jeep safaris will have stricter regulations now this has happened or if they stop altogether.

We have reports of it here I was just wondering if the driver is going to be charged or did they get the person who squirted the driver in the face,we went on the Jeep Safari in June and the one thing they told us was not to squirt water at anyone else and especially not other vehicles,I am getting sick of the do gooders who have jumped on the band wagon saying it was an accident waiting to happen not wearing seat belts and squirting water from a vehicle why don't these people get a life and just have some sympathy for the family of the father and daughter who have died.

When we went last year a jeep was pulled over and water guns were confiscated for using whilst the drivers were driving.

Everyone is now told to not squirt whilst the cars are in motion (unless its on that roundabout thing)

How sad... and how things are changing. The first Jeep Safari we went on was about 12 years ago when we drove the car ourselves. It seems so wrong hearing about this tragic news.. Our thoughts to the family. x

I also read that the driver has been charged with the deaths
seems such a shame that something so innocent affects so many people in such a terrible way

i havent been on a jeep safari before but i think the rules need to be a bit strictor! it is bang out of order to be squirting water while the jeep is in motion as its such a dangerous hazard, especially when there is no seat belts!!!

I dont think the driver should get charged at all, it was not his fault - tourists just dont listen.

my friend told me once that she was on the dolmus going to work and a jeep safari pulled up by the side of it at the lights and someone started squirting water into the dolmus, soaking my friend before she even got to work! Some people just dont have any sense now a days!

Such a tragedy and my thought go out to all concerned,i wish the driver wasnt going to be charged though,he has a jeep full of tourists that are out to have a day full of fun, apparantely he was a young driver and his first time driving. What a bad summer hes had,i think guidelines should be brought in on these trips, whilst the jeeps are in motion no squirting especially the driver, okay might not be such fun but we ve all had a good enjoyable day and returned back to our hotel safely.

when we were in icmeler in july ,our driver told us not to use the water pistols on the main roads as it was against the law.
later the same day 5 jeeps in our party got pulled over and the drivers got a fine 150 YTL. we should be adult enough to do as we are told, we would not behave like that in uk would we.

Jeep Safari deaths

Postby jivebunnie0 » 25 Aug 2008 20:58

Even last year, the police were on the look out on the main roads, and one of our 'convoy' got pulled over for having water guns. Our driver warned us to hide ours if we saw a police car.

I was watching my video again last night, and the drivers were getting squirted whilst driving, on reflection it is too dangerous..... also some of the tourists were filling their guns with sea water....not pleasant if you get an eyefull :(

It would be a shame to spoil a great day out by banning the water guns, but I do feel that people should be sensible.

No we wouldn't behave like that in the UK but more deaths are caused here by idiots on mobile phones while driving.

Followed this with interest
MY thoughts and feelings with the famileys involved
From a practical point of view, how safe or good are insurance polices in all these ventures, becouse, bottom line, hate to say this!
Someone every year, has to use either medi-vac or to put it bluntly, fly bodies home
This doesnt just apply to jeeps but also to any other activity you may follow
Most holiday insurance is meaningless in any out of ordenary activity. that is if you have insurance?
If insured how do you explain someones stupidety and proportion blame??!
Do people ask or see any insurance details when they venture forth, I got to say I havnt in the past!!
Cant happen to me syndrome!!
We all have it!!

If you go through life thinking like that what is the point of getting out of bed in the morning.

Hi There geovil

No Problem !!

I can get out of bed in the morning, with "peace of mind".
Knowing that my family can survive after my demise, due
to the fact that I have looked after myself with adequate
insurance etc ,both at home and abroad,

But Heh, "Good Man" !!!

I realy do have to "Thank You" for your "Concern".
Over my welfare!!.

Regards
Peli

I have to agree with Collette on this one, the threads at the minute are turning almost unpleasant to read - I have enough mud slinging at home with my 4 kids!!. I appreciate that people like to have their say but referring back to Peli's remark ...Top Man!!! - we found out from our Turkish friends last year that this is really quite an offensive remark. Perhaps is wasn't meant in the same context but things seem to be a little tense on the forum at the minue.
