I don't agree with saving sunbeds. I can understand why some people do it - if you are a large family and want to sit together - but it is usually totally unnecessary. Where we stay you can usually get a sunbed anytime of day, even in July/August when we go. We don't usually get up until around 10 or 11 o'clock and don't usually have a problem. I did find out this year though that a family who stay at the same apartments regularly pay the security guard £10 to put their towels on the sunbed each morning. Disgraceful. Di.

Glad we are going to the Kurt like the security guard already  Last year was a nightmare, the beds were taken before we went to bed, not Kurt apartments but different ones 8) I would not dream of doing it normally but because the little ones are up early we went to the pool early and got beds most days, but we used them. The days we went to the beach we never put towels out

Hi All
This sunbed saving lark seems to be breaking into two catogaries
There is the one which a few have touched on and I think are the genuine cases like familey and friends wanting to be together etc and I think no one has a problem with that, at least I havnt
To me the ones that get up my nose are, them that dont appear till midday etc on a regular basis and come swaning down like they own the place,This was the type of people that Ive been refering to in previous posts ,"its still b----y funny"
I think its all down to good and sensative management and if nessasery pile the complaints in

Actually think there is enough to go round, you can put your towels out after 9am. But shouldn't be any need to.

Hi Jonffs
I have a loverly mental picture of them shakeing their fists off the balcony while the towels sink in the pool
The bonfire is great but a bit dangerous in regard to keeping your liberty
But I think the "itching powder" is much more "intimate" and non-confrontational and definatly works, once the word has gone out that it is happening
The towels only appear attatched to their owners!

sunbeds

Postby geovil » 15 Aug 2008 13:39

We went in June/July stayed at the Captain Silver apartments and was totally shocked at how selfish some of the guests were out before 6am putting towels on sun beds some didn’t even come back that day there were 30 sunbeds 18 by the pool and 12 in the garden by 7am every sunbed by the pool had a towel on it even though there is a sign saying not to put towels on sunbeds before 9am they should have someone removing towels if there before 9am we didn’t want a bed by the pool as we liked the garden so no problem until the last couple of days when towels were being put on them as well and they were all british so I went down about 9am but stayed with the towels as for people in a large group I don't think that makes any difference I have noticed one of the people who condoned this has not replied, but I do like the idea of the itching powder might try that.

HI geovil
Dont know if you have read my posts well back on this thread, But from what I witnessed [still think it was b-----y hilarious] the thought of it happening was the deterant
Becouse when the word got around, as I said before, the only towels you saw at sunrise were attached to the owners
I think a good rumour should be enough!!
The "powder" as a last resort! probably for the ones that as, you say condone it.

Thats my pet hate that too....

I went to lanzarote 2yrs ago and ppl were queuing up at 8am to get there sunbeds around the pool.

We didnt have that problem this year in icmeler as there were plenty of beds round our pool. We stayed in the tuncay apartments by the old town and would highly reccomend them.

So, are there any posters on here who are either brave enough, or foolish enough, to admit to being the dreaded sunbed hoggers? 8)

Haven't come across this problem in Turkey myself, I have to say - but it is one of my personal bugbears from previous holidays in other countries. One resort in Spain was particularly bad, and yes, I hate to say it, but the Germans were the worst culprits.

Come on then, don't be shy - do tell the rest of us! (Or maybe they're afraid you'll get them with the itching powder, peli!)

i have just been told about another little thing to sort out the sunbed thiefs ,
if you smear a little jam under the sunbed in question , somewhere out of sight i have been told this attracts a ridiculas amout of wasps to the perticular bed ,

this would be a nightmare to me as i cant stand them and would rather face a pack of lions than wasps

My pet hate too! We usually get up quite early anyway so are using the beds from when we arrive at the pool, It really does irritate me when I see towels on beds from 8am and nobody arriving to use them until 2pm, this happened at the hotel we stayed in, ( can't even blame the Germans as it was mainly British people.) and I saw a few people arrive at the pool and not get a bed. I was so tempted to point out the ones that hadn't been used to them.

Some of the other methods mentioned above might have been very amusing to try out though  I would love to see reactions to them!

The hotel did provide more beds the second week we were there which seemed to help.

Postby jivebunnie0 » 20 Aug 2008 20:45

Perhaps we should start a poll on itching powder or jam

i've just voted "always do it" but that should read "always do it when all the beds would be reserved if we didn't"!!

it's one of those things that feeds on itself - some do it to excess and then the only way to guarantee a bed is to join the rat race if that makes any sense

i'll wait for the barrage of assalts and cringe
