Extra Luggage at Dalaman

Postby bec » 04 Aug 2008 19:54

Hi

Just a word of warning for travelling back from Dalaman.
My aunty and family come back in June..at check in,the staff placed the cases on the scales and quickly off again and then proceeded to charge them for being overweight!
As they knew they werent overweight,my aunty challenged them and asked the staff to get her case back so she can see what it weighs..they refused to do so.After 10mins of arguing,as they werent going to pay..the staff literally told them to go away!!! (exact words)

But speaking to others in Dalaman..a lot were getting charged for being overweight-a group of 6 were charged over £100..the staff took them to the cash machine and took the money off them and they were given no reciept!!

Just to make people aware

Thanks for the warning Bec, something to be extra vigilant for on my next trip.

Some people will stoop to all levels to make a bob or two!

This happened to us in April they said we were over and charged us £100 i said can i have a reciept they said no go away i said look we are not over and i want to claim this back the girl gave me £10 back and told us to go away.

The reason ii know we were not over is we go to Turkey alot and i can judge myself if we are over or not and in April we definatly were not over we left all our sun cream toiletries etc which we always doAnd my daughter never bought half as much shoes and bags as she normally does :D only because we were going back in the May

Now May is a different story we were over only a little bit and guess what we did not get charged.

In April we were ripped off so please be carefull when you que up you can see which checking person is charging who i do look now but this shouldnt be happening but there is nothing we can do.

In April like i said i asked for a invoice or reciept and was told in a stern voice NO go away.

What happens if your case isn't overweight and they insist on charging you and you can't pay. Does anybody know ? I never have any money left when I'm on my way back so I'd have to stand my ground and see what happens

Sorry just re-read Becs post and hopefully I'll be told to go away lol

I think i am defo going to get some of those luggage scales!!!

Maybe people that do have them, should have them handy at the airport and when you gat to check in let them see you weighing your luggage before you put it on the scales, might no have a problem then if you know you are under weight.!!!!!!!!!

Just a thought.

What's this about 15 kilos. We are going with first choice and they allow 20 kilos. I haven't recieved any notice that they have changed this so I hope to god it's the same. We have some of them spring loaded fishing scales, you can get them from tackle shops for about 6 quid. I will have mine handy at Dalaman now for sure.

Most seem to charging extra for 20 kilos this year...and some who are doing that are charging extra for any hold luggage from next year!Who could manage with 10 kilos only...thats what they are allowing as hand luggage!...thats stated very clearly when you are booking flights. At the minute most hand luggage is only 5 kilos.

It does seem to be a bit of a gamble - when we fly out from Dalaman in June, all our cases were under the limit, but the two women in front of us each had cases which weighed well in excess of the 20 kilos, but neither was charged any excess.

Handy tip. When you get to the airport put your luggage on an empty check-in weighing thingy, that gives you time to rearrange and fill pockets etc

That is assuming it is in working order, when we returned in July the party in front of us were arguing with the check in staff it seems they thought there was only 2 of them when in fact there were 6 don't know if they gave there tickets in separately or what but they were arguing for about 10/15 mins and the queue was getting bigger in the end they just told them to go,I spoke to them and it seems they were asking the couple for a lot of money for being overweight but when they were all weighed they were only 2 kilo's over but the party swore they could not be but were still being asked for 30 Euro's after telling them they had no money and the queue getting bigger they let them go just make sure if there is a few of you going thru give all the tickets to one person it will save a lot of problems, one word we flew with Ryanair last year and some people were overweight and had to go to the customer service desk to pay and get a reciept before they would issue there boarding passes.

We were lucky, we were 2 kg each over our 20kg, and they let us off gong out. We brought loads of stuff home so must of been even more over, but on the check in desk we went to at Dalaman, his scales weren't working so he was just putting everything through. I reckon I must of been about 4 kg over :D

It should say on your ticket hopefully.

When we went to Benidrom and flew with jet2, they tried to tell us we only had 17 kg, because they had put the allowance down since we booked. We had to go to Customer Services because we were already 2 kg over our allowance they were trying to charge us 5 kg over each which £30 each. Eventually got sorted but we still had to pay £12 each.

Thanks Steve, just checked my tickets and it does say 20kg. Iv'e promised myself I will cut down on what I take this year though, we don't even use a lot of it. Suppose we take extra `just in case'. 8)
