work in icmeler

Does anyone have information about working in icmeler? I am would love to move there but don't know anything about it, so any help would be great x

you dont say what kind of work most work is seasonal I presume you mean this type everything looks rosy from a holiday point of view but when you realy look into it there are an awfull lot of turkish/kurdish lads working there the majoritey struggling to make ends meet I feel sure if you put your mind to it you will get work but please before you go ahead step out of holiday mode and look at the practicalities like where do you live could you live off 50£ a week etc please good luck but be carefull

Yeah we was talking to a lady in may thats english, that works in angel's and she works everyday, from 10 in the morning till about 3 then bk at 6 for the rest off the night for £450 pound a month.

You are not legally allowed to work in Turkey.
If you get caught you can be deported.To work you need a work permit and to get 1 of those you need to prove your work is something a Turkish person can't do or your employer can try and get you 1.
There has been a few woman i have read about in the English newspaper The Post what is in Turkey that were deported because they got caught working.

re Beckies reply remember you are in Turkey on a visitor's 90day visa which means you are a visitor only' that is why whatever work you will get will be under the counter so to speak which will leave you wide open to exploitation I think it it extremely unlikely you can get a work permit

hi girls,

speaking as a 'working girl' out here in Icmeler; the dream is good but the reality is harsh. A few restaurants are looking for british girls to front their restaurant and hassle - something that holidaymakers don't like! It's true that you CAN'T get a work permit for this type of work - so you'd be liable to be picked up by the police and deported. The hours are long (unless, you're older and more experienced, then you can very occasionally get away with just working evenings, like me) - but even then, you'll only earn around £12-£15 a night. I have my own apt so I don't have to pay rent - how would you afford accommodation? They have staff houses for the boys - very basic, simple - and usually dirty. Totally unsuitable for you.

If you're determined to work out here - come out on holiday and ask around the restaurants about pay and accommodation. Good luck!

Thanks Yvonnem for speaking your mind and offering your experiance to others I can only speak from observations and talk and can fully endorse your comments over the years I have seen and heard horror stories about working at the lower end of the scale at the front or what ever this aplying to both Turkish/Kurdish/whatever nationality
From what you say and I fully agree be b----- carefull for every one that survives a dozen dont
again dont go at it with your holiday head on

I think you've both offered very honest, and sensible advice. Obviously working in another country is very different from being on holiday there and I think it is very useful to have good, genuine first-hand tips from people "in the know". I will pass it all on to my daughter, but if she's still determined to work in Icmeler at some point, who knows.....?

Blondie, make sure she's got funds to fall back on and also that she goes down the legit route
I've a feeling that if someone gets deported, they may well not be able to return even for a hol - so it's really not worth taking the risk I reckon

Thanks, I'm hoping she'll think seriously about it, and I certainly wouldn't be letting her go over then just on a whim. We're hoping to go back for another holiday in September/October, so hopefully that will give her a chance to think about it and look into the options available to her. You know what they're like though - at that age, they think they know everything and you know nothing!

Very true, mick. They do say that, at the end of the day, the only things you regret in life are the things you didn't do. I just don't want my daughter to go off to Turkey on a whim thinking everything will be rosy, but if she's determined that's what she's going to do, then I will do all I can to make sure she goes about it in the right way.

Some may know i was in Icmeler for 3months (April till 10th July)..Loved every minute of it!!!
But whilst there is plenty of work going...i got offered a lot of jobs,but also i know its a bit of a risk to take.I think if you get caught working without a permit then you will be deported and not allowed in the country for so many years (this is what i have heard,some people may correct me)
But although i didnt work-i did get by,because it something i have always wanted to do after visiting the country for 10yrs!!!
So if your daughter is determined to do it-i would advise her to save and then just enjoy it---lifes short,enjoy it!!!

By the way i am going back next month till the end of Oct wooooo

Your oh so right.As a father of a 23 year old daughter myself ,i can understand your thoughts and worries.You sound the sort of parent thats tells it as it is[god i sound like an agony aunt] Only she knows her own mind.Your right we are only parents and we know nothing.As you also said you will have to keep going to check on her.

Bec, can I just ask what kind of work you got offered?

Decided I am going to start saving as much as I can, so that even if work is too hard to get, I can still go and live there for a bit...hopefully get the parents to chip in a bit on this
