Our last holiday to Icmeler

we also found we had "items" added to bills, things that we hadnt ordered.

we love the charm of icmeler, the hassle does not bother me, a quick no thanks, and i carry on walking.....the views are breathtaking.....and most of the people are lovely and very helpful.....

for me,if i want loud music late on, or boom boom music, and bar crawls then i would go to marmaris, as this provides it...

but i dont.........

i hope icmeler doesnt change , as its charm is whats making us return

Our first Holiday abroad was in 1994 to a place called Sidari in Corfu at this time Kavos was where all the young ones went,Sidari was much smaller than Icmeler and was a paradise beautiful beaches and coves old worldy bars and restaurants but with it being our first holiday we thought there would be places just as nice so we went to different countries different resorts,always had a lovely holiday,and then in 2001 we decided to go back to what we considered to be the loveliest place we had found what a mistake,over the 7 years it had been advertised quite a lot we returned to an 18/30s resort loud music from every bar which were now fun pubs all the old worldy bars and restaurants were gone,unless you wanted to walk outside of the town for a quiet meal,I can see Icmeler going this way in about another 3 years we noticed the changes this year from 2005,and it is only going to get worse unless the council start putting regulations in place to limit the fun pubs just a word to the wise.

Geovil I also went to Sidari, when it was a lovely little quiet place, then I went to Faliraki when it used to be a lovely little town, that got took over by the 18/30 and drunken People as well.

Thats one thing I hope NEVER happens to Icmeler, at the moment Icmeler offers so much for so many people.

I hope Rami tells us more about this new council taking over, I am always interested to hear these things.

I was offered a job in sidari about 3 years ago as a drag DJ pleased I never took if it's that bad.

Off Topic: I went in ermm 1990 I think, stayed in Kassiopi and got a bus to Sidari one day, don't remember much, apart from it was a little like Turunc then, not much there and we sat on the beach most of the day.

I agree, I hope that NEVER happens to Icmeler, drunken antics are funny after a few drinks, but binge drinking, vomit everywhere, people lying half naked in the streets is just gross.

Thats not me being stereotypical either I have seen this with my own eyes

I can believe it collete. I know slightly different but has anyone watched that program costa del crime. Seeing what police have to deal with from mostly drunken brits, makes me ashamed to be British. I like a good time like anyone else and have worked int he entertainment industry myself so I know what people want to see from entertainment, but there's just no excuse for some people's behaviour.

Another idea for Rami to put to the council. As the increased noise from bars seams to be peoples main gripe. I am not sure if this is already being done at the moment but the Police should be going round with a desibel reader and haveing a set limit at how loud bars can play music and if this is already being done then maybe the limit should be reduced and enforced more tightly.

Decibel meter is a good idea but would really only be relevant to those that had apartments on top of bars. which admittedly is a large majority in Icmeler.

Trouble is the business are already struggling, us tourists dont have a lot of money either, so as is happening here prices are rising rapidly to compensate and if we've managed to get on holiday we dont have the money to spend the same, I don't anyway.

Next year the business are going to have to be competitive because of flight costs etc. otherwise we'll all be sticking to places nearer to England.

Plus duty free at the airport will be popular this year i reckon, with us all bringing our cheaper booze with us to start us of each night, or top up rather than pay over the odds in the bars.

agree entirely with you N T W LINK but the problem seems to be the Turkish bar owner/managers version of competition they cant seem to grasp the fact that we want a variation of entertainment they seem to think because them next door do it its a success' its going back to too many bars too few ideas

ok here gos my first time in icemeler I did think there was very little to do and most bars are the same old stuff
but enjoyed myself If I think a waiter was being over freindly i just try a diffrent bar same with adding on to the bill

I like the fact if you where lost or stuck with something theres always help from someone that can speak english Wonderful weather nice places to eat and drink
I was in spain at the begining of the year and had to say to the 20th sunglasses seller i dindnt want when he swore at me I told him I was going to punch him
Ive never felt that hasseled before ok i might try somewhere diffrent but as soon as i get there i say its just not turkey is it

I think you will get hassle, overcharging on bills etc, repetitive entertainment anywhere you go, sometimes far worse than in Icmeler. A lot of the decion of where we go on holiday now comes to price. Yes flights are dearer to Turkey but the accommodation is relatively cheap and the amount of money money we spend in Turkey is less than if we went to Europe i.e. eating out, trips etc. We have also had things put on the bill in Spain, but not in Icmeler, we always check, as we would at home. As long as the cost is kept down and things don't get out of hand with the music, hassle etc I think people will always return to Icmeler. Di.

i hope icmeler never loses its charm we have stayed in bodrum and mamaris but they have nothing on icmeler we loved been their last year and yes michel jackson was good the first night but went to other shows and loved them or we would go to hotels and have a drink if we liked the look of apartments we went in and had a drink with the waites and these were the best nights just having a laugh with the staff cant wait to come back in august

We have like many returned to Icmeler time and time again, not just because it's Heaven on Earth, but because of the people, and like many others we have made some really good friends over the years. A few of our friends run buisnesses in Icmeler and over the past couple of years we have heard the same thing from them, slow trade due to all inclusive hotels. Each year there are more All inclusives and more Resturant/bars, surley the council must see that there is going to come a time when the Resturant/bars are going to have less and less customers, the equation is simple, More all in + More resturant/bar = Less cutomers= Less profit.
Maybe it's time to say there are enough All in's and Resturant/bars, and only issue new trading permits if they can offer something diffrent.
Just my opinion but it could work.

while i agree with most of what has been said.i can go back far enough to remember when the village was seperate from the centre was'nt half as much hassle then.i think that the problem is to many similar businesses touting for the same trade.but with Europe pricing its self out of the market and the friendliness of Turkish people,we will be lying on our part of the beach watching the taxi boats and gulets as usual next year.ps i also avoid dancing waiter shows like the plague and if i am over charged i refuse to go there again and i will tell them why if they ask.

I can not recall ever being over charge, but saying that i very rarely check my bill, i normaly have a ruff idea what we should be paying and just pay up. We have had occastions where we have been undercharge and have pointed this out to the staff.
I remember one year a while ago in Icmeler, we had gone in the havana bar for a drink and i was still trying to get to grips with the money before they took all the noughts off, we had our drink and got the bill and i put in what i thought was the correct amout and left. We had been walking for a couple of minutes when i felt a tap on my shoulder, seeing the waiter from the bar standing there i thought i had not paid enough but had actuly paid to much, can't remember how much it was but it was not a fortune so i just told him to keep the money for his honesty. I think the only place you are certine to get ripped off in Turkey is the airport, but is that not the same in England.

i agree with most of the comments but would also like to add that after coming back a few days ago we found a different type of holiday maker has discovered our belovered icmeler and befor long you will find blow up dolls flags ect hanging from the balconeys (lloret de mar) the hotels/appartments need to crack down now and put a stop to this as i feel it lowers the tone and icmeler being the sedate little town we all love will become a place for lager louts and we will have to find pastures new sorry these are my opinions and i dont wish to offend but we are seriously considering somewhere new next year ! but where ? we will probably be drawn back as its like a magnic ,

totally agree with you Cassie about the flags hanging from balconies, I really can't see the need, especially football ones - unlike the Turks who are so very proud of their country and flag

Collette - maybe that's another idea of something Rami could bring up with the council?

as i said came back last week and the guests staying in the room next to us hung a large football flag from the balconey i felt embarressed to be english and then around the pool relaxing they then proceeded to let everyone know how many times they had been sick, what kind of people are they im not posh or a snob but when you save all year you dont want to spend precouis holiday time in the company of people who ruin your holiday why dont they stick to maguluff or lloret de mar not our icmeler
