Take the first left as you pass Tansas as if you are walking towards the Wed Market, you will pass the Wayside. We just walked that way, with some lefts and rights. We ate at the Wayside, and Ozzys, but that is as far as we went. I think there is quite a bit more to see than that though.

Hi Womble
Depending where you are staying to get to the Old Village if you go up the road by the Romance restaurant and follow it all the way to the crossroads, and then head towards the mountain you will find a couple of lovely restaurants one of them Captain Sinbads thing is if you had is phone No he would come and pick you up.

We were up by the old village two nights ago and there were two bars competing for the loudest music. The boom bars are spreading. It would not be so bad if they kept them together in a definite bar street. As Gene says there are plenty of quieter bars. We had a wonderful holiday but there does seem to be a change in the air in Icmeler.

Last holiday to Icmeler

Postby TAFF WILLIAMS » 08 Jul 2008 13:47

My wife and I having been going to different parts of Turkey for the last 20 odd years. Icmeler has always been 1 of our favourite resorts and we have been there on at least 5 occasions.

5 years ago we discovered Turunc and have been going there ever since - quiet location, excellent restauraunts, little hassle etc etc.

Last September we came across to Icmeler to visit our favourite jewellers and we were both dismayed with the hassle we received from restaurant and bar owners. Within a few hours we were glad to be back on the boat to Turunc.

On returning to our hotel the staff were highly amused when I produced 16 business cards that I had been given by different bar and restauraunt staff in the few hours we had been there.

I am afraid that Icmeler is rapidly becoming a mini version of Marmaris.

What a pity as it was and could still be a beautiful resort.

Our last holiday to Icmeler

Postby jivebunnie0 » 08 Jul 2008 21:57

Icmeler still holds her magic for us and we've made some wonderful friends over the years.

I made my feelings known a while ago about the Michael Jackson shows, and agree some of the entertainment should be changed / updated as people don't want to see the same shows in every bar.

We love to have a meal and people watch while we eat, then go for a wander and a bit of retail therapy, and then make our way to our favourite bar for a bit of the old boom boom music...... and dancing ( although it's only me that dances

Over the years, it has been great to be able to go out for the evening, enjoy a few drinks with like-minded people. The day that the streets are plagued with drunk revelers, on pub crawls, is probably when we will look elsewhere. The Brits have got bad names in other countries, and we don't like to be associated with that type of behaviour. :(

~We've seen it in Marmaris, but hopefully it won't take over Icmeler ~ that would be such a shame.

Off my soapbox now!

If only the bars would realise that loudest isn't best. Ilove a dance and lively music, but the decibel war is annoying. I've told my favourite bar to stop competing but its a bit of a stand off situation, and they don't seem to realise that they would have more customers stay longer if they stood their ground and didn't use volume as their weapon. I suppose it's a case of who can hold their nerve long enough. Hope it's resolved because we all love a bit of fun and music . Icmeler is better than that and I hope it survives and doesn't relent to quick wins. I love the diversity it offers at the moment but hope it remains in control. I have a feeling it will.

We were in Icmeler 3 years in a row. By the 3 time we had enough. As you say the entertainment is repetitive same old year in year out. My daughters although loved Icmeler hated been touch and kissed. So, last year we tried Hisaronu - much more laid back, hardly any hassle - no "touchy feely waiters" just polite and let you get on with it.

Olu Deniz beach beats Icmeler 100% and is absolutely breathtaking - and more like sand (very very fine shingle not stoney).

So we are off the Hisaronu again this year and then next year definately somewhere different. I have said this before on here and been shot down every time, but here goes - why go to the same place year in year out when there is a "big wide world" to explore - its like going to your local every night - eventually you get bored and need a change.

Sorry, but for me Icmeler is a lovely but dim and distant memory - We have exciting avenues to explore over the next few years, health and money permitting!.

Kilda,

I don't only understand what you are saying but I also agree with you. I actually saw this coming a few years back since all we have had in resort for entertainment was the cha cha and the kiss kiss and for god sakes, still have those. The problem here is that, majority of the holiday makers do still enjoy some of these entertainments along with MJ. And, when this is the case, the managers of bars etc continue to offer the same enterainment...and people who are fed up with it (me me me) are stuck either listening to motown, 70's 80's or boys dancing all over the place to various songs which you probably could not even find original cd's to anymore.

But, is icmeler about night life and entertainment and does the entertainment have to be classed as the things offered only around you. No, I think there are still some other things to do around icmeler which would actually balance things up on a holiday. For example, going for a dinner to Cinar or Riverside out side of marmaris for the night. Gokova for the day, Turunc for the day and the bays around it. Marmaris armutalan area as well as a stroll on the marina. Having a drink at the Netsel Marina (which is just past the harbour) Icmeler is an excellent resort but definitely not an entertainment resort esspecially when the music goes off at 12:00.Other things could be to explore other side of marmaris, Aktas, False Passage (yalanci bogaz) and ada agazi. only 3 km outside of marmaris but is different to icmeler and marmaris and is enjoyable during the day and at evenings. There are restaurants 3 restaurants in Aktas are which of all are set on the beach and have nighly entertainment of just a man playing a guitar...may work out better for you than a MJ show....does for me anyway:)

Hopefully, they will build a bar street int he future away from the centre so those who want the hussle can go there and those who want a relaxing night in town an stay in and around the centre or else, the number of regulars leaving icmeler like your selves will increase day by day and this is definitely not the solution to the hassle problem to start with.

Please continue writing on this matter and give in ideas of what else could be done to improve the holiday experience in icmeler and i will once again pass these ideas to the council and esspecially the new one that is due to start next year if not earlier.

Thank you
Rami

Hey there is a big wide world out there and its getting a smaller world so everyone should go take a look until they have found somewhere they class as a second home.

LovelyTurkey you posted this............

So we are off the Hisaronu again this year and then next year definately somewhere different. Exactly as I said explore but this part I don't understand...............

I see that you have made only 6 posts but I don't see anyone shooting you down so if you are now posting under a different user name then that is not allowed and if you are them please let me know that other so I can delete one of them to avoid confusion in the posts

I am a day person personally i am up at the crack of dawn and make the most of my precious days in Icmeler, At night we go for a meal, a drink and some retail therapy, seemed to spend most of my time in may in the old village as i value my eardrums.

How long has Icmeler had this mayor, is he the cause of the loud music to get the resort pumping

I thought the comment "Big Wide World" was interesting and then goes back to Turkey.
Got to agree with the Country destination though.

I think a bar that plays live music is a good idea. We once walked along the beach road in Icmeler at the end that is further from Marmaris.
there was live music on there and it was packed. I have nothing against Germans but the majority of people seemed to be German so we may have been where German people stay.

Also a few years ago we went into a restaurant in Marmaris, it was one of the first stops for the dolmus, just after a taxi rank. You walked through some type of chalets and the restaurant was at the back facing the beach.I think it was called Yurak Arani or something like that.

They had a Turkish man playing an instrument and singing all types of music... Turkish, English, middle of the road type of thing .
It was a lovely relaxing atmosphere.

There were Turkish & English holidaymakers dining there and joining in with the dancing ( not the waiters type of dance, although I do like to see that sometimes)

I'm waffling a bit but what I am trying to say is that perhaps the bars in Icmeler are trying to hard and are catering for only one type of holiday maker, what they need is variety as you can't please all of the people all of the time :?
