Few questions, first time visit!

Postby Bolton_Whites » 28 Jun 2008 14:38

Hi guys

New to the forum.

Visiting Icmeler for the first time, starting 11th August till 25th August and really cant wait.

Staying at the Selen 2 Hotel

Just a few questions:

1) Where is the best place to get money changed, home or away?

2) Never used Turkish lira, What rate should we be looking at to the pound? just so we know if we are getting conned or not.

3) How much does it cost to get in and out of Turkey at the airport?

4) Anyone any experience of the Selen 2 hotel?

5) Average living costs, meal out, beer, everyday foods etc
Give an idea of how many pennies to take.

Thanks for any help given, look foward to our visit! :)

Hi and welcome to the forum. I always take sterling travellers cheques with me and change them over there. The best place at the moment is shops the rate whilst we were there (only been back a week) was 2.40.

It costs £10 each for visa into Turkey that includes children too.

Sorry not experienced Selen 2 hotel but I am sure many have so you will get some feed back.

You will certainly become like the rest of us, addicts, and be booking for next year when you return. Icmeler is full of really lovely people (so is all Turkey) who just cannot do enough for you I am sure you will have a great time and look forward to hearing more from you. There is plenty of info on this forum and don't be shy to ask questions. I have only been a member for a few months but I can tell you these guys on this forum are great with helping everyone.

Thanks Misspiggy (like the name lol)

2.40 to the pound, is that good or average.

Used the euro a few years ago at 1.58, now its something silly like 1.20.

Is the lira having the same effect over recent years?

Sadly its looking like our last holiday for sometime, due to buying our first home so no matter how much we love it we prob not beable to go back :(

To be honest i was never a fan of Turkey, my girlfriend wanted to go and i give in, but after reading reviews and this site am now really looking forward to going.

Role on August :)

Thanks

hi BW - forgot to say in my last post, welcome !!

anyway, answers to your questions follow:
1) Where is the best place to get money changed, home or away?

only change say £50 over here and take the rest in your preferred method - bank card, travellers cheques or cash (we take £s cash)

2) Never used Turkish lira, What rate should we be looking at to the pound? just so we know if we are getting conned or not.

£2.34 I think is what i've seen on here - supermarkets will change it for you, just check their calcs to be on the safe side before you leave the shop (genuine mistakes happen!)

3) How much does it cost to get in and out of Turkey at the airport?

£10 english note each and lasts you 3 months

4) Anyone any experience of the Selen 2 hotel?

use the search button at the top of the page and you'll find pics & reviews

5) Average living costs, meal out, beer, everyday foods etc
Give an idea of how many pennies to take.

again, use the search button - you could do it on £50/day for the both of you but depends on how many trips you do and whether you drink in the quieter/cheaper bars or on the canal where it's always dearer
Red Rhino is a font of all knowledge and he's put on some average prices for this year

Hope this helps and have a great time

Congrats on buying your first home.

Shame you might not be able to go next year I just know you will fall in love with the place I don't know anyone who has not.

Like yourselves I don't think we will be going back next year now as my OH has just found out his work is closing so has got another job but on less pay :( but looking on the brighter side I can go back to work in September (kids will all be at school) so if things work out well it could be a last minute booking    fingers crossed

Good morning

Not got this house yet still waiting for details etc the long process!

But am sure if it goes ahead, those days of spending are over lol

Suppose having lots of shops is not a bad thing if it give me peace while the football is on but then again its going to be a costly game to watch if i let the OH spend all our money on hand bags lol

Pool area is good and has a slide and a bar.Does loose the sun in the afternoon though.

Thats why we book the non pool side, sounds like good hotel, stayed in the Dominican last year and that had bad reviews but we had a great time.

Thanks again, you have all been brill!
