Hi cassia If you are going to put your Turkish sim in an English mobile phone it wont work as English mobiles have been blocked. Try buying a bog standard Turkish mobile at one of the phone shops (take your passport for ID) for about £30 and that will probably work out cheaper for you if you use it a lot on holiday :) :)

Do you mean that no English mobiles work at all in Turkey?

Hi Hayzees
There's another thread about how expensive it is to use English mobiles [and sims] in Turkey, and like Steve says, you can't just put a Turkish sim in and use it.

The other thread reckons that phone cards are the best bet if you're wanting to phone home - and apparently it's cheaper to send a multimedia message than a text

I bought a Turkish simcard in Febuary and put it in my English phone and it worked fine.
If your in Turkey for long periods of time and using your English phone it will get blocked even if you are using your English simcard. If your phone is blocked you can only receive messages and not send them or make calls.

aha Becki, thanks for that
I've got an orange fone which I can't use other networks' sims in - even at home
looks like it may be worth getting a cheapie one on another network?!?

i reckon all youll need to do is get it unrestricted
you can get a mobile from asda now for a 5er without having to put creit on
so if you go to your local phone shop and get it unlocked there
try it when you get to icmeler
if it doesnt work youve only lost £10

Even if you get it unlocked here in the UK,the Turkish sim might work for so long but if your there for a long period of time the phone can still be blocked.I was there with my friend for 6 weeks Febuary/March,she then went back end of April for nearly 2 weeks and her phone has been blocked now so she can't use it apart from receiving text messages like i said before.
When you come back into the UK you can still keep the Turkish simcard active by putting something like #*123# before you land but if you don't use it for 3 months it will be closed.
