Good Morning All

with reports of the resort being quiet was just wondering if those people who have been and come back could tell us what the hassling is like this year I know last year they clamped down on it and it was mainly the hairdressers and jewellery shops that were doing it is it the same this year

Steve, I just came back last week, and its the same this year, most hassle is from the jewellers and hairdressers, oh and also the trip guys, but a polite 'No thank you' seemed to do the trick.

I also found the the jewellers and the guys selling the trips seemed to give the most hassle.
Bars are still doing it but not as bad as a few years back.
One thing I did find though was that they shout to you now from the secureity of their own bar area.

we did get some hassle but if you say that you are living there or just there for the season they will leave you alone

in may i found the guys that sells the trips worse .the first night walking past baron the hassler front shouted across road i know you . hes pain backside it amazed that they were open after countless bars were shut that week .

Quite agree with Gene that the hassle is way down from the bars.
Tour touts and hair dressers are continually at it and, as we found out, never get pulled into a jewelers unless you have £3000 and 3 hours to spare.

this hassle's a funny thing, much as I don't like it, it wouldn't be the same if there was none
know just what you mean about having to have a few hours to spare in jewellers though - the hassle outside is nothing compared to the time you can spend in the shop! we've always been pleased with what we got including the price, but it drives me MAD getting there!

We have spent many a happy hour and many a £ in the jewellers , but they really do bug me...... They have such lovely, different jewellery to look at, but it really does put me off, everytime I want to look, they virtually drag you in. Saying that though, I have bought some lovely pieces there, and it has proved to be a good investment too.

I tried on a beautiful necklace a couple of years ago, most unusual design... it turned out to be white gold and diamonds, not just costume jewellery, and was about £3500.....needless to say, it stayed there - I'd have been frightened to go out with it on.

Me and the other half were in Turunc for our main holiday this year, whare hassle is vertualy none existant apart from one perticular place. We went into Icmeler for a long weekend and as mentioned it was the hairdressers and jewelers that were hassling most, we did see one or two places that were ON HOLIDAY for three days though.

Jivebunnie0 may i suggest the short trip into Turunc to buy your jeweliry, you can browse the shops with no hassle at all, only when you want advise will thay aproach you other than good morning or good afternoon, it makes for a more enjoyable shoping experiance.

Yeah thats why i didnt really like the market, it was my first time there, and my mum was like dont show any interest in anythink unless u WANT to buy it, because i would point at stuff to my mum then they would drag you in, so in the end i gave up looking!!

We came back Friday hassle is very quiet this year only trouble is if you just glance at goods or window they are on you bars are much better just a polite no thank you and they say okay. I took a ring to be repaired at a jewellers and he was fine taking it in and gave good price to repair but when I went to collect he started all the "sit down have a drink" performance I told him politely that I didnt wear much jewellery but kept showing me gold that I wasnt interested in I had to be firm and just ask for my repaired ring I told him I was going to beach i didnt want to spend 2 or 3 hours of the day sat in shop. People would probably buy more if they didnt feel forced into things. Hairdressers are bit of a pain when you all dressed for night out and they shouting that you should come in for hairdo.

Weird thing is in the original bazaar in Istanbul there was no hassle at all and everyone left you alone

its makes me laugh when they ask my husband if he wants his hair cutting, he is nearly bald then they ask him if he wants extensions, he has nothing to hang his extensions onto

I did give in and have my hair coloured last year. Just be prepared, once they had me trapped in that chair with the foil on my head it was non stop for over an hour. would you like a facial? manicure? pedicure? eyebrows threaded and tinted? A guy turned up and I had a trip brochure shoved in my face. They even went and rounded the kids up out of the internet cafe next door, then started on them to have their hair done, temporary tattoos etc.....

After all that though it's the best hair colour and cut I've ever had, my hair looked stunning and a fraction of the price I normally pay over here

I know exactly what you mean , I went to the hairdressers last week for a manicure and a pedicure. They tried to sell me a haircut, highlights, hair extensions, false nails and even tried to get me to have my eyebrows plucked!! Just had to stick to my guns and say "no thankyou".

hairdressers worst me and my son had haircut 2 years ago ending up having facial ,shave which never wanted and had to pay 70 lira sorry not again.in may the same hairdresser asked me every day haircut shave facial !

Hassle from the bars is not as bad as it has been in previous years, they seem to shout you from the enterance so they do not get caught on security cameras. Every bar and resteraunt I was in I looked around and saw street big brother cameras. I had no hassle from jewellers had a quick look in the window as I'm walking past, Speedy from Sports Bar took me to Azra Jewellers where his wife works and I was there for about 30 mins, loked in the windows, picked what I liked, agreed a price, paid and left!! Hairdressers are the worst for hassle at the moment and I tell people selling tghe boat trip I've already booked one does the trick!!

I don't understand why the police are targeting alot of the restaurants and bars for alleged hassling..it seems that the locals who work hard can't even talk to their friends whether their locals or tourists and who they have known for a long time.There were a few places last weekend that have been stopped by the police for this even though they weren't doing it.Now they have to wait for their fate and how long they may be shut down for.How does Icmeler expect to survive this when tourism has gone down over the last few years and the authorities in cars/motorbikes and pushbikes need to go out and catch the idiots who speed up and down the main road late at night.

Thanks for your answers as I have said before in another thread the only thing we can do to help are friends is to step into their bars and great them so as they dont get into trouble
