Hi.
We are going to Icmeler for the first time in July and I've been reading this forum for a couple of months now to see if I can find out anything about the Green Mar apartments. We are going with 2 other couples, one of whom has been to Turkey many times. As they know the area, they have arranged the accommodation & have booked us into the Green Mar. Unfortunately, all I have been able to find out so far is that the apartments are in an excellent location but are quite basic & is mainly occupied by the Dutch. If anyone has any other information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks Sue.
I've looked at the information on here already & the Green Mar looks fine to me apart from the pool is a little on the small side. My children love swimming & would happily spend most of the day in the pool so when we looked at the photos my daughters only comment was "you won't be able to drown a fly in that pool" lol. I'm sure we'll have plenty of other things to keep us occupied so hopefully the size of the pool won't be too much of a problem.
I have looked at other review sites to see what I could find out & I could only find 2. Unfortunately one was titled "Beyond basic" & really wasn't very complimentary & the other had 4 reviews but they were all in Dutch so I was just wondering if I could get any more details from someone who had stayed there.
Icmeler sounds like a lovely place though & I'm really looking forward to my holiday. Not sure how my husband is going to cope with 40+ degree heat but hopefully he won't notice after a few beers!

I'm staying in here in September too.
Like you Maria i have only read them bad comments on the internet but i did get to have a look at the apartments in the Winter and they looked fine to me.Pool is on the small side but i didn't see many people around it in May or any other time i've walked past so sure your daughter will be fine.I know someone off a Msn site who has just stayed there and asked her what it is like so will let you know what she says :)

Thanks Becki,

I've been told by the couple that we are going with, who have been to Turkey before but not to these apartments, that you can also use the pool at a hotel across the road which is owned by the same people. I've also been told by other people who have been to Turkey that a lot of the accommodation is more basic compared to other countries. I'm sure we will be out & about exploring most days so I'm not too concerned about the pool or how basic the apartments are. My main concern is that I've only been able to find 2 other English reviews, one of which was quite negative regarding cleanliness, facilities & the helpfulness of the staff. I know some people just like to moan & that everyone has different opinions & views but I wouldn't be so concerned if there was a little positve feedback too so I would really appreciate hearing what your friend has to say.
Most people on this forum seem to go back to Turkey year after year so it can't be too bad!

Hi Maria
Yes Icmeler is amazing - if you don't already know
To be honest, I don't know about Turkish accom being more basic though cos that's not my experience. It's certainly cleaner than a lot of other places - even down to the mozzie van that keeps the little blighters at bay ha ha
And friendlier folk you couldn't meet anywhere
have a great time!

Hi Maria

''just got back from there it was clean and tidy, very central just oppisite the love boat i will put a few pictures up later the fridge though was a little minging starting to get a little rusty
they have a lift which is good,
one problem there is never anyone on reception so you always have to go wonder hehe.
and please be careful when you get in lift it shuts soooo fast it could catch your arse lol
it clean basic cheap and perfect for those who just want sum where to sleep cook and change, exactly what you need lol maid comes every day.
pool every day is in the sun they have a baby pool but make sure you use umbrellas cause can get burnt. have there own bar, would use here again good place''

Doesn't sound to bad to me!I have stayed in other hotels were there hasn't been anyone on reception so that doesn't bother me just keep your key on you.

Thanks Becki.

Doesn't sound too bad to me either. We usually keep the hotel key with us anyway & we'll be happy to use the stairs (it will probably be the only exercise we'll get while we're there!!). I don't cook when I'm on holiday so as long as the fridge keeps the drinks cool, the beds are clean & there are no hairs in the plugholes (little phobia of mine  ) there shouldn't be any problems. It was nice to hear that your friend would stay there again. That's always a good sign :D .

I can stop worrying now & start to get excited. We've only got just over 3 weeks to go (fly out on 17th July) & one of the couples that we are going with has been to Icmeler before so I'm sure a good time will be had by all!

I stayed in Greenmar 3 weeks ago & they are fine. Plenty of space & clean. I am staying there again in 3 weeks when I go back so that says it all!

Thanks everyone. You've all been so helpful & really put my mind at rest. It will be our first time to Turkey & everyone on this forum has made it sound so appealing that I have a feeling it won't be our last. I will definitely report back on our return.
Have a great holiday everyone & don't forget the sun cream

Got back on Friday &, as promised, here is what we thought of the Green Mar.

We arrived late at night but were greeted at reception & shown to our room by polite & friendly staff. We had asked for a room on a lower floor as I suffer with arthritis but unfortunately our room was on the 3rd floor & was tiny. There was 4 of us (2 adults & 2 children) but there was only one main room with a double bed, a sofa (not a sofa bed), a small kitchen area, a dining table with only 2 chairs & a separate bathroom. We explained that there was not enough room & that we couldn't expect our 11 year daughter & our 8 year old son to share a sofa. They went & got a guest bed but there was not enough room to put it anywhere. As we were all tired, we said we would make do for that night but they would have to move us to a bigger room the next day.

The following morning they did move us but unfortunately we went up another floor rather than down as we had requested & were now on the 4th floor. However the room was bigger & had a separate bedroom so we decided that we would look at it as if we were in the penthouse & make do. There was 2 other families with us who had similar problems with their room but they were moved over the next couple of days too. Although my husband had got quite irrate at one point the staff were always polite & did all they could to help.

We couldn't fault the rest of the hotel. The swimming pool was on the small side but was never really busy & Friends Bar, which was part of the hotel, was superb. The staff were excellent, especially with the kids & they couldn't do enough for us so in return we have promised to send over some CD's for them as their music collection was slightly limited .

All in all, although the Green Mar is not the nicest hotel/apartments we have ever stayed in & due to the size of the rooms is more suitable for couples rather than families, it is in an excellent location (at the end of the Canel, opposite the Diva Hotel & just across the road from the Florida restaurant) & has extremely friendly, polite & helpful staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.
