Got back this morning.
All prices are set by the councils.
Minimum prices for Efes in Icmeler is 4Ytl But many bars are still trying to drop the price ie:- one or two selling at 3.5 ytl several and even our cheapest bar that is always Sugars was selling at 3ytl (become a reguler customer and it gets better) .
Steak meals minimum price set at 21ytl,rising to 27ytl in a few of the upmarket restaurents.
Chicken meals from16ytl to 19 ytl.
Soft dinks still on par with beer prices.
Snacks 6ytl for 2 eggs beans and chips.

Turunc prices are set a little higher, Efes minimum 5 ytl.

Plenty of good prices for food etc still to be found.

All for 17.5 ytl at 2.4 to the £ is £7.29 pence
There Efes is also 3ytl = £1.25 for a large bottle

Lynda, but the sad news for you is that The moonlight chef who has worked with Mehmet for several years has left and moved up the road to the new "Mr Yes" Restaurent,this restaurent has also recently been closed for hasseling.

It's daft how the council can set prices, restrauts should be able to charge what they want, competition can be a good thing.

Do people not watch the news the price of commodities world wide as rocketed there have been food riots in some countries as the price of grain and rice has gone up so much, how can Turkey can be immune from this.

You only have to look at prices in this country, it's worldwide.

One good thing is the Lira is falling in value against the pound on the money markets, and is showing a nice curve, which should make it a little cheaper.

As for Bulgaria joining the Euro soon, I doubt it very much

I know of many people who are switching from Spain to Turkey this year as Turkey has come out on top for prices. So I hope some extra tourism will give the economy a boost.

People who know I go to Turkey have been asking me a number of questions over the last few weeks. They are looking to go Aug/Sept and I have passed on the web address for ICR to a few people.

The only thing that worries me a little bit is that with all the price rises in all countries it is going to make it harder for people to travel abroad. I hope it doesn't do a full circle and be like it used to be when "only the well off "could travel abroad.

I must admit it takes us all year to save for one holiday and we've always been a bit envious of people who can have two or three holidays a year. I would be devastated if we couldn't afford to have our one holiday to Icmeler

I think there is still bargains to be had for travelling abroad. The good thing about Turkey is that accomodation prices are very cheap so as long as they don't go up then turkey is still a cheap holiday to go to even with the flight prices increasing.

Turkey clearly isn't immune from the wordwide issues - its the scale of some increases that could be regarded as worrying. Without wanting to tempt fate, it wouldn't be the first time inflation got out of control in Turkey (god forbid as I love the place....).

What do you mean regarding the lira being weak - its down from 2.65 in April and 2.60 to 2.70 last summer to c2.45 now (mid prices). Although its up from the lows of 2.25 earlier this year, and is very weak against the Euro (but unfortunately I don't have many of these ...)

I don't understand the politics behind the council setting the prices.Competition is an excellent thing.I am sure all the restaurants and bars would rather be competitive.Some places charged a bit more because of their excellent entertainment,will that mean they charge extra for entertainment now?It will be interesting to talk with the locals about it and to see why they think its happening.
