Onur baggage allowance

Postby cheriton » 29 May 2008 20:22

Hi all, we are flying out of Gatwick with Onur to Dalaman. I know the baggage allowance on Onur is 20kg each and that any thing over 32kg may be refused. There are 4 of us travelling so in total an allowance of 80kg, and we normally take 2 large suitcases and one smaller one. The larger ones always weigh well over 20 kg but less than 32kg and the smaller one is normally less than or just above 20kg. Individualy the larger ones are over weight but collectively all 3 weigh less than our allowence of 80kg. On previous flights with other airlines they have always taken the weight as a total for all 4 of us, but do Onur allow this, and whats more will they allow it flying back home. :?

I'm interested too please in knowing whether we can "pool" our allowance - fortunately, youngest daughter doesn't use all her allowance and loves taking her own little case
her plans could be scuppered if we've each to use our own allowance

Last year I found Onur quite lenient with being sligthly over the weight allowance but I flew with Thomas Cook last week who were quite the opposite! I was charged £6 for being 1.5 kilos over.
I was given the opportunity to unpack at the chek-in desk and put some stuff in my hand luggage but couldn't be bothered (would have it it had been more money though!). They claim it's to do with the aircraft having to use more fuel when carrying extra weight.... ok so what's next - weighing people to see if they fall into the correct weight limit? And charging anyone for being half a stone heavier than they should be?

Fanny - could you daughter take her little case on as hand luggage - if it's not too big of course (they don't seem to weigh hand luggage these days), then you could spread the hold weight between you?

Hi Icmelarians. We travel with Onur and it has never gone by per bag. There have been 4-7 of us travelling from Manchester and it goes by per party. Some over, some less and we have had no problems at all. Happy hols Jem xxxxx

Hi I would say the same as Jemini....they only are interested in the whole lot.Apart from over 32kg as its a health and safety issue. We have flown with them for the last five or so years and havent had a problem.Mind we havent really gone over the allowance either.Once coming back before Dalaman was revamped, the guy who was weighing our cases said they were over the limit but the other one just shoved them thru as they had such massive queues.Always a concern that they will charge....they being any airline. But I'm prepared to ditch stuff if they quote silly money, never happened to me but have heard tales.

We should all persuade our other halves that they only need a few bits of clothing - few pairs of shorts, t-shirts, tracky bottoms and no jeans as they are too heavy, and definetely no heavy shoes. OOPS I forgot, we already do that

One of our cases was over the limit with Onur air and 2 were under and didn't get charged think they added the weight of them all together.

Cheriton, our bags were weighed indiviudally - so not a combined weight - my case was 1.5 kilos over! Coming back home through Dalaman they were weighed together though.

ooo Mary, just don't get me started on the weighing people thing   think that will come in time though

am still trying to fathom why it matters whether the weight goes in the hold or as hand luggage though - puzzles me every time

.......now as for being 6' tall and having to pay for extra legroom ........ grrrrrrrr

Hi all, I've just paid the dreaded surcharge to Aegean flights  I asked the lady about the 20 kg baggage allowance and before I could allaborate any more she said that it would be a combined weight as long as no bag weighs over 32kg. I then asked her if it was the same coming home and she said "yes, as far as I know". On this info were just going to pack as we normaly do. :D
