marmaris or icmeler

Postby andy robinson » 25 May 2008 18:18

Coming to marmaris on 9th june ,,,, the marmaris and icmeler forums are like chalk and cheese ,, the amount of people on the icmeler forum is amazing and i have spent hours reading the experiences of people who obviously love icmeler ,,, the last time we came to turkey was 4 years ago and stayed in marmaris and to be honest we only went into icmeler once (for the Market ) but this year we want to spend a lot more time exploring icmeler , our hotel is the flamingo and we are lead to beleive that it is on the road to icmeler from marmaris so we should have no problem getting into cmeler ,,,, come on ,, why is icmeler so special ???,,, and how far is icmeler from marmaris ?????.
Also its our 25th wedding annivesary on the 11th ,,,, can't wait for the 8th when we fly out ....... might see some of you there ......cheers

We celebrated our 25th anniversary in Icmeler and it was our first time there last May, loved it sooooooooo much went back in August and are going back again next Monday    it is just lovely there! The people made it for us they are wonderfull, cannot do enough for you, nothing is too much trouble. We ventured into Marmaris one day on the boat but i found it to be a bit too busy and dont think i would really want to stay there  Its not too far about 10 mins by car i should think. Check out the June meeting at Vinces post! We are all meeting up and its on 8th Juneat 9pm so depending on your arrival time come along

Compared to others we had a very limited view of Icmeler last August which was our first time to Icmeler. It was about 8th time to Turkey but first to Icmeler. we are booked again for this August. This is a family of 4, 2 adults 1 aged 39 1 will be 42 when we get there and 2 kids aged 6 and 3 this year. There was something for all of us but the Turkish culture is still there, which is what we wanted. Icmeler is friendly and warm and that goes for tourists and locals alike. We will never go anywhere else. Will get off the soap box now :D

icmeler is smaller and more friendlier than marmaris, its a real family place, you make friends with them and even if you've only met the person once and went back a year later they will remember your name, where else would you get that? icmeler isnt far from marmaris the dolmus runs all the time and will drop you where ever you want. I think the last run is 1:30am but dont quote me on that. But some bars/resturants if you are eating there and drinking they will use their own taxi service and drop you back at your own hotel for nothing. I only go into marmaris to look at a few shops and maybe the market if I can be bothered but other than that I hate going into marmaris its just not for me. Over the years we've made loads of friends and its great when you go back and see them all again. what can I say? icmeler is just the best :D

Hi Andy.
The first time my family and I went to Turkey we stayed in Marmaris to. We had friends who were staying in Icmeler at the same time so we met up quite a bit with them. We actually ended up spending more time in Icmeler than Marmaris as the atmosphere and general feel to the place is so different. Marmaris is just too big and very impersonal, where as Icmeler is the complete opposite. You will not find a friendlier, warmer, (and I don't just mean the weather!), or more hospitable place than our Icmeler!.
Have a great holiday.

Hi Andy

Me and OH used to go to Marmaris for our holidays. It was around our 5th or 6th visit to Marmaris that we headed to Icmeler for the evening. We got off the dolmus near The Red Lion, and we decided to eat there that night. We had the pleasure of meeting Ciay (sp?) that night, he spent time talking to us about Icmeler and the hospitality was second to none. We also had a good chat to Gogo, and the guy who done Michael Jackson. We spent the entire night in the restaurant and they gave us a ride home to Marmaris, they wouldnt hear of us getting a dolmus or taxi.

That night without seeing the rest of Icmeler sold it to us. We did return a few days later to have a stroll around Icmeler and found it smaller and friendlier than Marmaris.

Now we go to Icmeler for all our holidays, but have 1 - 2 nights in Marmaris to visit old friends.

Enjoy your trip to Icmeler, I am sure you will love it.
