Put your tops tips in here.

Be it ways of space saving when packing, places to go - eat/drink or visit, how to haggle, what to avoid, how to make things last etc etc etc etc.....

Mine has already been mentioned but we never go away without taking knicker elastic - we use it to keep our towels on our sunloungers so the wind doesn't blow them away - we use about a yard tied in a loop for each end and strap it over the top and bottom of the lounger and the towels stay put - we also use the left overs as a make shift clothes line.

Always have a few tea light candles in the bottom of our cases - the repellent sort for evenings on our balcony - or god forbid if we have a power cut.

We take a bar of honey olive oil soap rather than a heavy bottle of shower gel. Take sachets of shampoo rather than bottles and spread them out through our cases and hand luggage.

What's your top tips ??

I cannot really think of any tips but the ones you suggest Beau ,are great.
I will definitley take some knicker elastic and because of the weight restrictions I think the sachets of shampoo will be great!

We always put the heavier shampoo bottles etc. in the children's cases not ours. As their clothes are so much lighter than ours it means we can all take more or less what we want :)

I always take my own pillow, as I am fussy where my head goes, and the person before you might have had nits.

Take an extension lead so I can have my hairdryer and straightners on together.

Always take an old bath mat, you never know what feet have been on the others.

Have a look at the sun lounger towels in Aldi they have a hood on them that slips over the top of your sunbed so it doesn't move and it is the length & width of the sunbed .

 @ Colette you sound like my Mother inlaw.

Always take a little bottle of dettol or savlon - for the same reasons Colette mentioned really, give everywhere a quick flick over with Dettol and know it's only your own dirt around then

We always take some thin (light weight) beach towels and use them as back ups inside the apartments after showers etc or for round the pool or rolling up and putting in our bag for days out.

We used to take andrex moist wipes (or baby wipes) but since we discovered the botty wash loos in Turkey they're a thing of the past  Altho they're good to have in your bag to freshen up on the beach or clean off the sun lotion off your hands.

We also take one of those alcohol hand gels in our bag to use if we want to clean our hands and can't get to a sink or just to freshen them up before eating out.

Always keep some loose change from previous trips to Turkey for the transfer to resort when they stop off for a loo stop and you have to put money in the box. Or just book the ICR transfer and bypass the stop off

Don't go anywhere without a sarong in my bag - just to cover up it if gets too hot - they were a god send last year.

I don't think I'd get all my clothes in, if I started putting pillows and bath mats in my luggage, Colette

1. We always take a couple of hand towels to put over pillows ~ very often hotels have foam pillows, and in that heat it can stop you sweating in the night.

2. If you have a fridge/mini bar - put your after sun in, and it is wonderfully cool when you apply. Also keep lippy in there, and it doesn't melt.

I always take our own pillowcases to cover the ones that are there.
(you dont know whose head has been there before)

Some string and a few pegs so we can dry our stuff out on the balcony.

Also take some ice cube bags so we can have nice cold drinks everyday.

Liked the idea of shampoo sachets. Anyone tell me where to buy them? Do they do conditioner as well?

I usually save them up if any get put through the door, or you sometimes get them in magazines. I luckilly have a cousin who is a hairdresser and she gave me a load last year. Worth asking in your local hairdressers if you could buy some ? Conditioner I take the ones that come with my hair colour. You could also try boots, they might have them ? Or even just buy some of Boots' 'take aways' and buy what you need out there. I'm taking sachets and a couple of charles worthingtons 'take aways' if they run out I'll nip down the shop and buy some more.

Also I save up plastic coat hangers from the dry cleaners and put some in our cases just in case there aren't any/many in our apartment to hang all our stuff up, they don't weigh hardly anything and look better in your case going through the scanner than loads of wire ones  We leave them there when we go.

EDITED:

Just found these on ebay - if link not allowed PM me Sanjo for link.

If you have young kids that just can't do without their ketchup fix raid the fast food places at the airport and stuff your hand luggage with them. This also applies to the hand cleansers and salt + pepper sachets.

My tip is take a change of clothes ie shorts and vest and some swimming stuff in you hand luggage. that way if your case doesn't arrive with you, you have a change of clothes.

Like the tip about shampoo and conditioner, might go and get some myself.

We take those tiny jars of jam/marmalade for our toast in the morning. We also take pocket scales to check the weight of the luggage before we leave for the airport, we've found them to be very accurate.

Wish I sold the shampoo - I should be on commission

I really think all hotels should have a set of scales for people to make sure their cases aren't over weight - thought about getting those pocket scales are they very pricey ??

If your hotel/apartment has those power pack things on the key fob for the electric, take it off the fob and leave it in when you go out so your plug in repellent can kill any mozzies that may have gotten inside while you're out.

Save your paper napkins when you're out and use them as loo roll if you run out.
